I got hit by a car today.

I had just gotten coffee with my boyfriend, and while we were crossing the street with lights flashing and other cars stopped for us, some lady just kept going way over the speed limit and ignored everything, including us. I jumped out of the way, but she still clipped me and I now have a bruise. What did she do after? Kept going.

Was she old?... I'm thinking she might be one of those half deaf half blind elderlies who can't differentiate between the traffic lights and the sun.

I got hit by the wing mirror of a car street racing once. It was overtaking the other and was on the wrong side of the road... going literally 70mph probably in a 30 zone, about midnight I think. I simply didn't see until the last minute and managed to jump out. I was lucky to be alive probably. There are on average at least 2 serious accidents around that spot per year, and on another occasion my parents' car got totalled. It was parked with the boot open and apparently a speeding driver had to choose between hitting a double decker bus and hitting our car, so he chose the car. A lamp post also got thrown into orbit somehow (it just vanished one day when I came from school, and the accident had only happened 5 minutes earlier so there was no time to clear up) with a scrunched up car on the side. 1 man dead, 3 in hospital all in separate accidents... I don't know what else might have happened since I moved out of the area.

This is going to turn into a rant now... :/

I hate shit drivers. Lots of guys I know think that they're fucking Vin Diesel and swerve around corners and other cars like idiots. It made my day two weeks ago when two morons like that swerved out from opposite lanes into the middle one in front of me, at the same time. 10 seconds earlier one of them horned me too, so I slowed down to 10mph, rolled down the window and gave him the finger, nice and slow with a smug grin so that he could see and pop a vein from his road rage. So satisfying. Made my day. Douchebags.

I am totally sorry that happened to you.

This actually happened to me about two years ago. I was walking across the street to get to campus so I could attend my classes. I was crossing what, though I didn't know it at the time, was a cross walk where people make frequent right turns on red, and as such look left more than they look right. Couple this with the fact that people don't cross there often (even though it is a designated crosswalk at a traffic light) and they're probably less likely to look.

Long story short I was crossing the street and a woman was turning right on red and she hit me straight on, since I turned toward the car when I heard it coming. At first I thought some of my friends had hit me trying to play a joke on me, but it turns out it was just some little old lady. I not only had to miss my classes, but I had to spend the entire afternoon in the emergency room to make sure nothing was wrong with me. To this day I regret the fact that I forgot to ask the lady for her name and insurance, because she did get out of the car to try and help me. But I brushes off everyone's help because, believe it or not, I had fully intended to still go to school.

This is why I think drivers over 65 should have to have a yearly hearing test and eye exam as a part of their privilege to own a diver's license. Maybe that's harsh, but that wasn't the only accident I have encountered with an elderly driver. I really think that should be regulated.
