pickpocketed >:( - December 14th 2011, 12:25 PM

Some bastard took my phone out of my pocket!! I was doing my christmas shopping and had my hands full, I leaned forward to pick something up, and the guy next to me went "WHat's that?" And he was chatting to me about how he lives on his own and he's lonely and I was the first person who's talked to him all day. And then when I pay for my things and check my pockets, my phone has gone!!

My dad is gonna kill me. I've had that phone less than a month

What do I doo ????

The first thing I suggest that you do is to contact the police and report the robbery as quick as possible. With the way phones are these days, it is very likely that the police would be able to recover it with ease. Your dad would understand that what happened was not your fault.

How kind of you to offer such helpful advice to someone who is clearly upset and needs support instead of someone making her feel even worse . It's not like she put it down somewhere and left it behind. Her phone was stolen from her pocket; exactly how was she supposed to look after it better?

Niente, I do think that you should report it. The store may even have security footage of the person who stole it, and if he did this to you then he has probably stolen from other people in the same area. Your dad should understand that this was absolutely not your fault.

Seriously, telling someone to be more carefull with there stuff is not rude in my eyes. She could of put it in her jacket pocket? Now stop being daft.

Some of these never phones have tracking detectors. I'm very certain if you go to the place where you got the phone, they can help you with that.

In the future, be more aware of your surroundings and take better care of your things. Get yourself a belt holder, or if you are not wearing pants, have it deep in your purse. Never keep your phone in your hand or set it down on a table or counter. The whole planet is experiencing money problems and the minute they see they can have a free cell phone to possibly use or sell, they are going to take it.

Knowledge is half the battle.

If anything the jacket pocket is a lot more insecure than trouser pockets, you're much less likely to feel something being taken from a jacket pocket and they generally are easier to get into. And pockets are pretty much the safest place you can keep something. Maybe you should stop being daft? The reason you're being rude is because you've told someone who is clearly upset, and apparently does take good care of her things (most women will leave phones in their hand bags). You criticised her and didn't even offer any advice.

Back to OP, if you report it stolen then they can at least lock phone so that nobody can use it (well, they should be able to).
