Should I complain about this bartender or leave it alone? - Today, 10:19 AM

So, I accidentally ended up becoming a semi-regular at a bar. I say accidentally because Im a super regular at another bar but they close based on number of patrons, so Id frequent this place after. The bar that Im talking about is on my route home and I would stop off to get an extra beer or two before completely calling it a night. They recently got new bartenders. I showed up recently and ordered-and all they did was hand me my canned beer. No fancy hard to make drinks. I get the check and left 75 cents. The single beer was also nothing fancy: it was a PBR. Enough said. It cost 4.80. I just cant bring myself to pay 5.80 when I can get a 6 pck for that price. Yes, I know and expect that bars are more expensive than at home drinking. Anyways, new server takes a look at my 75 cent tip and I ask whats funny (already knowing the answer). She talked to me like I was 5 and said that "75 cents...really?! it is just the social norm to tip at least 20 percent(when you exclude taxes, my tip was actually around 18 percent)." I was speechless. Told her that she was the first server I ever had to confront me about a tip and that it was super unprofessional. I was divided between throwing a quarter at her face with some bad language or asking to "fix the tip" and give zero percent instead. I did neither. I just went outside to drink it. I could hear her inside making fun of my tip
to other bartenders.

I want to go back and tell a different bartender that is friendly to me that the reason I no longer go there is because of this server's entitled attitude. The friendly bartender probably would say "Wow, havent seen you in a while, what happened?". Then I could tell her. I mean the bar is almost across the street from a fire station and after tips, this bitch makes more than the people I see going out saving lives. But I dont want to draw attention to myself.

Worth mentioning that the entire reason servers arent paid a "fair wage" is that they make more money this way and have actively pushed against a fair wage system. They love their tips and free shots. They dont want their employer paying them. They want me, the customer doing so. And apparantly, 75 cents for all the 5 seconds of effort it takes to reach right behind them and simply grab a can of PBR is laughable.

Also, percentage based tipping is stupid. If drink prices are higher at one bar than another due to greater corp. rent on a specific street, then I dont see a reason to pay the server more than the dive bar in a seedier part of town that has lower rent. The server doesnt pay any of that rent. In fact, I actually go to the place with lower rent now. I can get a pitcher of 4-5 beers(of something decent) for just double what a PBR costs at this bar.

I would like to settle the issue and return to this bar. I dont want to be banned for escalating it, but Im also not about to start tipping high just because I was shamed into doing so. Self respect

Edit: not relevant, but they also only hire female bartenders. Infind that discriminatory as a guy.

I wouldn't let this one incident ruin the experience of the bar if the rest of the employees are good. Maybe see if it happens again and if it does, you can complain then? It isn't great that this bartender complained about the tip, though, so if she does it again I'd bring it up with her manager.

You can always leave a review on Yelp or another platform if you don't want to go back.
