Talking Equal Marriage in Scotland! - July 25th 2012, 01:22 PM

[Article here.]

Quote:
Equal marriage advocates have welcomed the Scottish government’s much-awaited announcement this morning that it will be bringing forward legislation to allow gay couples to marry and remove current barriers for trans people.

The government will bring forward legislation that would allow gay couples to marry in civil ceremonies and religious ceremonies where faiths choose to permit it. The majority of MSPs have pledged to support such a change in the law.

The law would make Scotland the first part of the UK to allow gay couples to wed and would remove the need for trans people to divorce and form civil partnerships if they transition while married.
Personally, I'm really excited about this and for once am actually pretty proud to be living in Scotland.
I realise there's not much to debate here, I'm just really excited about it.

I'm proud of all of our laws and this is no different. Glad the SNP, and to be fair the opposition too, are doing the right thing.

^^ YAY. I'm not sure if this is the right place to say congratulations or not, but I kind of mean that for it both being good and for all the couples that can get married/stay married.

I've said it once, I've said it twice, I've said it a thousand fucking times
That I'm OK, that I'm fine, that it's all just in my mind
But this has got the best of me, and I can't seem to sleep

YAY! Congratulations to the people of Scotland! Now if only America (and the other countries in which gay marriage is illegal) could officially legalize it throughout the country, then it would be so awesome.

Are you serious?

Seriously, give me a good valid reason why this should be considered bad news. What's bad about having an equal marriage law? What's bad about equality?

Equality doesn't work, some people are inherently better then others.

Plus this costs the state money because they can file for marriage benefits and tax reductions.

If we used only monetary reasons for laws, slavery would still be legal.

Obvious troll is obvious.

Sorry, Guile, I don't know if I can take you seriously. Here I had thought that your first comment was not exactly one of disappointment in the Government's initiative.

The benefit of living in Scotland is that political views like Guile's would probably be considered hate crimes

Humans happen to have about 10 thousand traits. They are good at some things and bad at others. I'd really like it if you could post links to some surveys rating EVERY SINGLE quality of some people and saying that some people are better than others in ALL aspects/ over all inherently to support your point.

So saying "BERCAERSHE GOD DEMANDSH EEET" would be more reasonable then saying it's a waste of my tax money?

I'd say my reasons are the most practical, plus it then seeps into the rest of society, such as Don't Ask Don't Tell being lifted on the military, give an inch take a mile, if you will.

That's a waste of effort. You're traits don't add up like some sort of points system, some things are immediately disqualifying. Sure you may be an awesome artist, but the fact that everyone in your family has cystic fibrosis, out of the gene pool for you. One major negative trait makes the rest irrelevant. Traits beneficial to manufacturing and production are more beneficial, as a whole, then those for the arts. We need foodstuffs and steel, we don't need movies per se. Yes, I love films, but they aren't necessary for society to function. Overall you need a mix of intelligence, physical, health, mental, and behavioral related traits that are beneficial, without many negative traits.

Most people are wage slaves, in terms of freedoms we may not get beat, and have the "right" to vote, but overall most people can't simply choose to live a different life. Society locks you in, that's one of the major issues for the homeless trying to rejoin society, you need an address to get a job (typically), but a job to rent an apartment (cyclic).

Well, this has been your viewpoint for a while now. I'd like to see the proof for negative traits cancelling out ALL your positive ones. What you have right now is a theory. Prove it. Take into consideration how a person is functioning with all his/her traits. Lets see what is happening in REALITY and not what you THINK is happening. Lets do the survey on you and see whether you were worth bringing into this world or not Thats what you keep saying for others, right?

Because with 7 billion people we have a wonderfully large gene pool to pick from.

No, simply a small negative trait wouldn't have you kicked out, say being an inch shorter then average, a grandparent had cancer, etc.

But per my example, family history of major inheritable disease, mental retardation etc. With 7 billion people, we can throw out a good deal and not lose out.

So we have now found a way to fit eugenics in an equal marriage debate and we cannot really debate with the slavery idea without going into philosophy about slavery of the mind?

So there's no legitimate objection, is there?

Roughly $260 million was injected into the New York economy due to gay marriage being legal. I don't see how that's a bad thing financially?

1. Like I said before lets check out all your traits and see if you need to be 'thrown out' as per your theory.

2. If you see it like that, it won't matter. But if you look at the people close to these people getting 'Wiped out' it will make a hell lot of difference. I suppose that emotions don't matter to you when it comes to the 'greater good' of the world so lets start by 'wiping out' your friends and family so that people can learn something from your example.

3. Lets say that some major inheritable disease runs in Obama's family. So according to you, his whole family should be wiped out?
