Grandma dies trying to stop sword fight. - April 10th 2009, 10:23 PM

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30136788/
Quote:
A 77-year-old woman suffered a fatal stab wound while trying to break up a sword fight Thursday between her grandson and brother-in-law, police said. An autopsy determined Franziska Stegbauer died of a wound from one of the swords, police Sgt. Matthew Mount said. Both men were hospitalized with stab wounds and one was critically hurt. "We're unsure yet who started this fight, how the swordplay got involved," Mount said. "We're not sure who it was who stabbed the woman. We'll have to do some testing on the swords and figure out who had which sword, whose blood is on which sword." One of the weapons was a World War II-era Japanese officer's sword with a thin blade, and the other had a thicker blade, Mount said. Police placed Stegbauer's grandson, 39-year-old Chris Rondeau, under arrest on a preliminary charge of attempted murder. Stegbauer's brother-in-law, 69-year-old Adolf Stegbauer, suffered several serious stab wounds, police said. Franziska Stegbauer was not breathing when officers arrived about 1 a.m. at the home on the city's northwest side and she was later pronounced dead at a hospital, police said. Adolf Stegbauer was listed in critical condition at Wishard Hospital, a spokesman said. Rondeau also was taken with stab wounds to Wishard. Police said he was alert at the scene, but a condition update was not immediately available. He was being held in the hospital's detention unit.

I didn't know that people still have sword fights. That's really sad. Poor grandma. :[

Taking care of business the old way. The grandmother was truly a warrior, so let's have a feast and some sword-fighting in her honour.

She died a warrior's death. Her bravery is amazing. Most people don't own swords or know how to use them, so this is a bit odd, but eh, that's how the world is.

She whispered to her own reflection "I will be strong."

"If ye harm none, do as ye wish."

Sometimes things just happen.

I guess I must be weird then. We have a small sword hanging on the wall and I know how to use it. However, we also have cases of guns in the house so I guess swords on the wall aren't too far off.

But do you pull out the swords and start having a match to the death each time there's an argument?

Nope, I can't say we do that. But, if we wanted to, we could. We know how to use swords. Sometimes I forget where I'm from. I guess most people don't know how to fight with swords. That was my point.

I feel that it probably started as a friendly game and then it turned into a battle. Such as a conversation during the fight the made a turn for the worse causing the people tor strike at each other. Either way it's aweful that a woman had to die under such circumstances as fighting :[

Sword fighting is easy depending on how much the sword weighs.

Wow, you dont hear these things too often, sword fighting (like, REAL fighting) is just really random.

"I disagree with you!" ~shuzah, sword!~ "A battle to the death, it is!"

Its sad that she died, though

...Samurai. Ah, well. People live, people die, I suppose. She should be commended for her bravery, and how she can be oblivious to the part where there are SHARP, SHINY, BLADES SWINGING AT HER FACE. -_-
