Deaf preschooler asked to change his name sign - August 28th 2012, 10:20 PM

http://www.1011now.com/home/headline...167394325.html

what do you think of this topic? personally, I feel it's ridiculous! he's a child, and he identifies himself with this hand motion, and that's like asking him to change his name because you don't like it.

Now, really?
Is there not a tiny part of their policy that may possibly say "We reserve the right to change, edit or in any other manner alter this policy at any time, with any or notice for any or no reason; at our discretion we may further disregard parts or all of this policy - this is solely case-by-case and may not be applied to the existing, past of future policies in any discussion, including but not limited to disputes"

It's ridiculous, and - you know what?

Like that bit of policy I just drafted.

This is seriously ridiculous. It's a registered name sign! The school has to be able to find a hole in their policy for the way a child identifies himself.

As a law student, I give you this orange:

“Know all persons by these present that I hereby give, grant, release, convey, transfer and quitclaim all my right, title, interest, benefit and use whatsoever in, or and concerning this chattel, otherwise known as an orange, or citrus aurantium, together with all the appurtenances thereto of skin, pulp, pip, rind, seeds and juice to have and to hold the said orange, for his own use and behoof, to himself and his heirs, in fee simple forever, free from all liens, encumbrances, easements, limitations, restraints or conditions whatsoever, any and all prior deeds, transfer, or other documents whatsoever, now or anywhere made to the contrary notwithstanding, with full power to bite, cut, suck or otherwise eat the said orange or to give away the same, with or without its skin, pulp, pip, rind, seeds or juice.”

Funny, 'cause "fee simples", in most countries, don't exist anymore.

Because in the end, it doesn't even matter.

Just one more example of schools taking their censorship and power too far and then trying to hide behind a policy that this doesn't even fit into.

They've now said the kid doesn't have to change his name. I guess they realised how far up their asses their heads were to suggest it in the first place.

Its funny how quick schools will react when parents stand up for their kids and bring it to the Media. I find schools think their gods and can do whatever they want regardless of rights. I think the childs College was just paid for though.

Excellent. Hopefully they'll actually take note of what a monumentally stupid move this was and remember it for future reference, and aren't just backpedaling because of the negative publicity.
