Holy Twitters? - May 4th 2009, 05:43 AM

Quote:
Twittering in church is the latest rage among cutting-edge congregations, as some pastors turn to the social-networking tool to encourage interaction among worshipers. Pastors hope the technology will help build community and nurture dialogue, reports Time. One Michigan pastor spent weeks educating his congregation about how to use Twitter in church, and he flashes blurbs from worshipers on screen during services, such as: "Nothing u do 4 the lord is in vain" and "Awesome music today." "It's a huge responsibility of a church to leverage whatever's going on in the broader culture to connect people to God and to each other," said a pastor.

I think this is kind of weird. Honestly, what is with this whole Twitter craze? A church using Twitter isn't to strange, I suppose, but spending weeks teaching a congregation how to use Twitter? Give me a break.

Seriously. I dont think I've ever been on Twitter....I remember when Facebook got all crazy and I signed up for it cuz my friend wanted me to join her mafia...? Anyway, it wasnt all that great.

Maybe they were just feeling lazy and were like "I know! We'll just teach em Twitter for a few weeks..."

I don't understand crazes with websites either (Besides TH xD)

I know that I might be so called crazy in saying this, but there are a lot of sites that are purely social on the internet, and it seems strange to use them seriously, like for church business. I understand "computers are important to the modern day society" and all, but really. Computer's aren't all business....
Or church business

Yeah! Could you see the church using myspace for church-y business?

Actually, that'd be funny. I would spam them. A LOT.

I don't think Twitter will last, like FB and blogging has. But we'll see. Whatever works, I guess?

I honestly don't know a single person who has Twitter. And I also don't understand what's so fantastic about it.

Twittering in church sounds insulting to God, if you believe in him.

Lol. xD

I actually own a twitter. I don't use it, but made one once. I have logged in many twice since I made it and I have like 6 people following me at last check, and I only know two I think.

Gossip will be easier to spread within the church.

I think Twitter caught on too fast to last.

I think it is also the ultimate stalker tool. Like.. if you think Facebook or MySpace is bad.

I've never got Twitter. From what I've seen it just seems like a glorified Facebook Status...

I have Twitter and I like it a lot. Most of the people I have added are online friends though. Using it in church, however, seems a little odd. You should be paying attention to the service rather than commenting on it by updating from your phone (I guess it is your phone).

Oh my god. I can't even explain how much I despise Twitter. I have one, but I don't update is as much as normal Twittering folk. At first I thought it'd be neat, but now it just seems so. Overdone. And ridiculous. And now that churches are doing it? For the love of pete.
