Charlottesville - August 13th 2017, 03:25 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

This isn't a debate thread. I repeat, this is NOT a debate thread. Im not here to debate whether racism exists or some other topic like that. This thread was made with the intention to express thoughts and feelings about what had happened with respect that this was an act of terror, because it was.

Please don't comment if you don't plan to respect my intentions for this post. I'm not posting it in the debate forum. Violence is not a debate to me. It happened, it was real. Period.

Thank you for understanding.
(And sorry for being so feisty about it. I just really have my limits after everything I've been through)

My thoughts are with people in Charlottesville and anyone else across the states suffering from this. It is devastating.

Re: Charlottesville - August 15th 2017, 05:18 AM

I'm just letting everyone know that I've moved this thread over from General as it's better suited in this forum. However, please note that the OP has requested that this not turn into a debate. The thread is here simply because it is about a current event. As stated in the original post, this thread is for sharing thoughts, reactions, and feelings about the event without debating causes or context. Thank you all for your understanding.

Re: Charlottesville - August 15th 2017, 04:55 PM

The entire thing makes me sad. However, it's not surprising. I know a lot of people are surprised that hatred is still so rampant in the USA but it's something I have been aware of for quite some time. I hope that the people who were injured will be okay and I pray for the those that lost someone.

It is pretty sad what happened at Charlottesville coming from both sides. They've shown their worst colors and it disappoints me to no end.

Re: Charlottesville - August 16th 2017, 10:08 PM

I find it so upsetting that, although I'd seen images of what was happening, it's only today that I've properly seen news coverage here. Maybe I'm missing it, but I just think it's been really poorly covered where I am. It's just such a shame that in 2017 there are still people who have these ideas and feel the need to shout them from the rooftops. More years wasted for the people who get killed too.

Absolutely disgraceful what is happening to our country again and even more so that our "president" isn't doing or saying all that he can about what has happened and I hope he knows that his silence on the majority of the issue speaks volumes about his morals. Who is ready for Civil War ll?

Unfortunately there are those who respond with violence when hearing different views. Its a sad day but we'll come back stronger. My thoughts are with my fallen comerades. May they rest in peace.

Re: Charlottesville - August 17th 2017, 07:11 PM

I know this is not a debate, but I really don't like how cities have begun removing Confederate monuments from their buildings. It reminds me of the paragraph from Wagner the Werewolf by George W.M. Reynolds:

And truly, on the brink of the tomb no animosity should ever find a resting-place in the human heart. Though elsewhere men yield to the influence of their passions and their feelings, in pursuing each his separate interests—though, in the great world, we push and jostle each other, as if the earth were not large enough to allow us to follow our separate ways—yet, when we meet around the grave, to consign a fellow creature to his last resting-place, let peace and holy forgiveness occupy our souls. There let the clash of interests and the war of jealousies be forgotten; and let us endeavor to persuade ourselves that, as all the conflicting pursuits of life must terminate at this point at last, so should our feelings converge to the one focus of amenity and Christian love. And, after all, how many who have considered themselves to be antagonists must, during a moment of solemn reflection, become convinced that, when toiling in the great workshop of the world, they have been engaged, in unconscious fraternity, in building up the same fabric!

They died equally to those on the other side of the war, and I think that, in general, eliminating an identity because it is being misused is not the right course of action
.

The attack was already bad enough, but our joke of a president keeps finding a way to make it worse. Way to honor the victims, by making a false equivalency between "many sides". No, one side did NOT include a person who drove a truck into a crowd of people.
Donald Trump is a hopeless embarrassment of a leader.

It's awful what happened in Charlottesville. What is going on with the world. It isn't just our country nowadays, it seems to be the whole world.

Hes trting to discredit antifa. The same people who brought us child labor laws, women's sufferage, and much more. Of course je doesnt understand the anarchist movement and how anybody can just do anything claiming to be part of the movement. He sees the black bloc and thinks it represents antifa. But he doesnt see the black cross(anarchist red cross off shoot). Or the millions of anarchists peacefully protesting and at times being forced to violence in self defense. Do we clash with police? Of course. Ive done so and im quite proud of it. When they tried to arrest us for feeding the homeless, you think we let them? No. But we didnt tear apart the town either. but i digress. Dont mean to debate but yeah.

Re: Charlottesville - August 20th 2017, 09:19 AM

I'm surprised things like this is still happening in 2017. But then again, I'm not due to racism.

It's horrible what's been going on.
