Lightbulb Red Bull pulled in Germany after cocaine test - May 30th 2009, 03:32 PM

Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine. The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per liter in the drink. Five other states also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations. Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment said Monday that the cocaine level was too low to pose a health risk. It planned to produce a more detailed report Wednesday. Red Bull said its cola is "harmless and marketable in both the U.S. and Europe." It said similar coca leaf extracts are used worldwide as flavoring, and a test it commissioned itself found no cocaine traces.

If the amounts are too low to cause any immediate effects, one should look and think if they could cause any long-term effects. If they don't cause either, then I'm not concerned over it. Then again, Red Bull's own tests yielded no cocaine results, so either they're using less sophisticated technology to test, they're lying, the German testing areas were lying, or cocaine somehow found its way into the can/bottle after leaving the Red Bull factory.

If there's so little cocaine to cause no short-term nor long-term effects, then what harm is there in selling it? Perhaps allow only adults to buy it if its effects on kids is not fully known.

Um... while the truth in this case is kind of iffy, I don't trust those energy drinks anyway. One time I was reading the label on a Rockstar and it said "CAUTION Do not drink more than 250ml in one day" and the can was 500ml.....(Well I'm pretty sure those were the amounts, might be different but I'm sure that the ratio (1:2) is about the same.

Me and my mom were talking about redbull as I started reading this, and she was drinking one as I told her she was drinking liquid cocaine. I doubt it's a big deal really. Or someone would have found it before?

Red bull, and most other energy drinks, is bad for you anyway, so whether or not it has a small amount of cocaine in it, shouldn't really make it worse for you.

.....lol. That's all I have to say.
If it's not enough to cause an effect, I don't see why people see it as a threat.

Help my little eggiweggs! =D Prease?
