Scientists Discover Massive Ring around Saturn!! - October 7th 2009, 08:53 AM

Hi Everyone!!

I hope you're having a groovy day!!!

Scientists Discover Massive Ring around Saturn.

"The ring's orbit is tilted 27 degrees from the planet's main ring plane. The bulk of it starts about 3.7 million miles (6 million km) away from the planet and extends outward another 7.4 million miles (12 million km).

Its diameter is equivalent to 300 Saturns lined up side to side. And its entire volume can hold one billion Earths..."

So massive it's hard [For me at least] to even imagine.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/space/1...ing/index.html

As a side note: I will ALWAYS think of Pluto as a Planet. And I don't care what anyone says!!

GREAT BIG HUG
Craig!!

For some reason when I read this it really made me laugh... How they could mis something THIS big with alll the technology they have

How can one love themselves, when they love absolutely nothing?
Do something that is interesting. If it is not interesting, find out why it is not interesting.

It's understandable that they missed it, if you see how huge the ring is in comparison to Saturn itself, you'd have to looking at an enormous picture to see it. Cool find.

I thought this was a joke at first, "HUrr durr rings", but thats actually really cool. Haha.

Often I lie wide awake, thinking of things I could make.
But I don’t seem to have the parts to build them.
I am so scared of what will kill me in the end, for I am not prepared.
I hope I will get the chance to be someone, to be human.

Interesting, at first I thought Craig was trolling but I was mistaken, Craig managed to dig up a fairly interesting article.

The article gave several reasons why:

1) Saturn doesn't receive much light.
2) The rings don't reflect light that's within the visible light spectrum.
3) The rings are made up of ice and dust that are not condensed very closer together. In the words of the article, "if you were to stand in the ring, you wouldn't even know it".
4) In order to spot the ring, they had to use a specialized telescope that is able to have some of the dust in the ring glow due to thermal radiation.
