TWLOHA - November 13th 2009, 11:27 AM

I figured it was a current event so if I'm wrong please move it. But it's also more of a question than anything. I'm sick today and am probably not going to school, so it's kind of pointless to do it when I'm in my room all day so does anyone know when the next day to write love on your arm will be?

I'd also love pictures or discussion on how everyone's day went, if anyone asked about it, how many people did you see participate ect. =)

I say write love on your arms any day and everyday. It's about recovery, love, and finding happiness and hope. Everyday we look for these things.

Just to add, I'll have LOVE on my left arm, and IS THE MOVEMENT on my right =]

Re: TWLOHA - November 13th 2009, 03:38 PM

Ah, I thought 'Write Love' day was only once per year? As in, it would be next november before the next one. The unofficial SIAD (Self Harm Awareness Day) is March 1st if that's any help?
I got my friends to do it, I wore my shirt, put up posters, printed leaflets and I set up a display in the library (all with permission, obviously) but no one came, no one asked about my shirt. No one seemed to care or notice. I got ONE response when I was walking down the hall and a girl I know grinned and said 'I love your shirt!' that was IT...
The librarian's letting us keep the display up a couple of days next week though so maybe we'll get more response then...

(But yes, like Torence said, do it any day you want to, I used it to keep my arms covered this summer without having to wear jumpers )

Throw those curtains wide
One day like this a year would see me right

Re: TWLOHA - November 13th 2009, 04:54 PM

I took part in it today!
I wrote "love" on my left arm and got a lot of other people to write "love" on thier arms as well after they'd asked about it ^_^
I also saw a girl in art with it written on her arm

TWLOHA is finally getting the attention it deserves in the UK now!!!

i'm not really go anywhere either but after I take a shower I am going to write it on my arm:]

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Usually the facebook group has more than one a year. But last year I did it and got tons of people to do it too. I'm really upset I'm confined to my room this time.

I didn't see anyone with it written on their arms on 11/13. Then again, my school is extremely close-minded and hates anything that has to do with 'emos'...that's what they told me. I'm afraid of doing it now.

I got an invite on facebook earlier this morning saying the next one is Febuary 13th. Which I remember writing Love on my arms last year on that day...so I know it is a for real date.

I wrote love on my arm yesterday. I forgot about the whole thing until fourth hour, but I still decided to decorate my arm in marker and love!

No one really asked except a kid my sister and I sit by at lunch but he's not really the type that would care about something like TWLOHA, the other day he was making fun of suicidal people...

But anyway, I definitely didn't forget! :]

i didn't last year because i didn't want anyone to see and ask about it.. because i guessed then they would assume that i must self harm/used to self harm?. hmm. but anyhow.. i wrote love this year. a few people saw it and smiled but no one actually said anything. i did see like two other people who had written love as well though :]

Ah thank you, I remember it being February 13th too. I wish I could totally have done it, I love when people ask. And when they ask if I use to, I tell them my best friend did. That usually stops questions.

I'm really a fan of this day but TWLOHA is such a shady organisation in general.

Re: TWLOHA - November 17th 2009, 07:36 PM

what is the point of this thing? do you think writing on your arm with a marker is REALLY going to stop people from cutting themselves, or stop them from being depressed. Yeah, I get that you're trying to show solidarity of whatever...but there are probably better ways that don't support a religious organization and don't make you look like a middle schooler.

Also, someone mentioned that money thing. I heard that this company hasn'tl let anyone see their financial record from the past few years? I wonder why? I can only assume that it's because the money from the ridiculous t-shirts is going straight into some guy's pocket, instead of to helping an actual cause.

Read the "story" of TWLOHA. YES, the organization was "inspired" by a woman- however of course men deal with these things too.

Uhm, it's not really a religious organization? I'm not entirely sure where you're getting that from. And why is showing your support middle schoolish? Did you think about the fact that by writing it you show others you support it, and therefore probably wouldn't make fun of a cutter and make them feel less alone, or like they can tell someone? Sure, you could be right with the money thing but until they prove it I'm going to trust the organization.

Re: TWLOHA - November 20th 2009, 03:58 PM

I'll be honest and say I found that day really horrid.
I got sent the invitation via facebook... like I'm sure many people did.

Come the day all the preppy girls in our year had 'love' decorated all up their arms, it was more like an accessory than a meaning. I mean some of the people that had it were the sort that go around slagging off 'Emo' culture.

I guess this is just my opinion of course, and maybe it was only like this in my school. Although I understood the meaning of TWLOHA I still found it unbearably triggering - weirdly I felt really claustrophobic that day. But Meh - like I said maybe it's just me.

I just don't understand how decorating your arm with the word 'love' can help stop self harmer's? I mean if all those kids in my school really wanted to help they'd do more than colour themselves in - again they may well help out people I don't know about...

I just found it a truly stressful day. On an up note I think its a great idea that all these topics are being brought to light and people are becoming more aware of things.

I'm off to go read the Story of TWLOHA and see if that may change my mind about things =]

Sorry about the length of this, Claire x

Read their website. They talk about God's Love, this and that, etc.

Yes. Obviously, I've THOUGHT about that fact, but I think it's pretty idyllic and naive to believe that wearing a t-shirt, writing on yourself, giving money to an obviously shady organization is going to solve any problem.

So it's idyllic and naive to wear a shirt for say, breast cancer, autism, recycling, abuse? It's no different than all the other causes out there.

Nobody has said that they think writing love or wearing the tshirt will solve self harm or the people who self harms problems. For me I see writing love on my arms as a way of showing that it is possible to stop self harm and love yourself, even if it is just for one day. I self harm and I personally think it sends out a nice message when people write "love" because it's about showing that you care
