Scientists find single ‘on-off’ gene that can change sexual characteristics. - December 12th 2009, 07:26 PM

Read the article before posting.

Also, the article is fairly bad with mixing up the word gender with sex. So just because I'm LGBT mod and demand the terms are used correctly Sex is your body, gender is your mental association.

Somehow, that gives me a creepy feeling that in 20 years time, people will be able to switch gender/sex on a daily basis, depending on their mood or what they want to do that day.
Great for research...but kinda weird.

switching gender 'on their mood', would be a tad pointless, as the physical differences would still taqke time to become visible, particularly considering the length of time it takes for hormone therapies to make changes, e.g. facial hair generally takes months to begin to grow on a female bodied person injecting testosterone. That, and our society's stressed and enforced conceptions of binary gender would prevent your average person from desiring such a change... of course there's a chance that gender will be viewed differently by then, but probably not enough.
