What Do You Think Of Glamour Modelling? - January 4th 2010, 12:34 AM

Well I'm not planning on doing this or anything I'm just curious.

I just saw two guys being interviewed and they were on the topic of glamour modelling. One of them said "yeah they're nice to look at and have great bodies but I wouldn't talk to them, they have brains like a pea"

I was just wondering what other people thought of glamour models. Do you look down on them because of what they do? Do you stereotype them as not being clever?

Re: What Do You Think Of Glamour Modelling? - January 4th 2010, 12:47 AM

i say good for them! i mean - if they can earn a load of money by taking their clothes off i don't see why anyone should criticise them for it. there is definitely a stereo-type though, and a lot of people automatically assume that glamour models are dumb and have no personality. my older brother actually dated a girl who was starting out as a glamour model, and i can't say she broke the stereo-type, unfortunately..

if someone offered me enough money to take my clothes off and have my picture taken i would do it.. [it would have to be a lot of money though..]

It's not the models that I dislike, and it's not even the clothes designers and the industry--but I don't like the idealization of any particular body type. And I have my whole theory on that.

But it's not the models. They are working a job, getting money for skills and talents they have. It's no worse and no better than more typical careers.

PS: do I feel jealous of their bodies.. yeah sometimes. But then again.. that's not their fault.

I actually think it takes some talent to be a model. Being beautiful isn´t the only requirement. You need to know how to walk and/or pose properly. It does seem as if there are many models who lack book smarts, but I wouldn´t look down on them for that, and I certainly wouldn´t assume they are all the same.

It reminds me of a show called "America's Most Smartest Model" on VH1. Some of them were actually smart of this blonde one had literaly no brains.

you do realise that this thread is about glamour modelling - not catwalk/normal modelling?.. it doesn't take much talent to be a glamour model to be honest, they just take their clothes off and have their picture taken.

I do think good for them. They know that this makes money, they have the confidence and thats why theyre doing it.

The only thing I dont like about it is, it makes me feel really self concious of my own body.
I know, I know... they are made to look perfect and thats what theyre for. And I know everyone knows all this.
It just still worries me how guys see me compared to them.

I honestly have nothing against it. Money is money. It's at least respectable, I mean, they could have ended up doing worse things.

Besides, it brought us Seren Gibson and Sophie Howard. That should be enough to assert its awesomeness haha.

Re: What Do You Think Of Glamour Modelling? - January 4th 2010, 07:12 PM

I've done it (granted a fair while ago), and would gladly do it again... I met a lot of girls when I was modeling, some very steriotypical (dumb) and then many who were scarily smart.
I really hope I fit into the smarter side of things :/

The bit I don't like is the photoshopping, very often I would have my photo, think it looked great, be really proud of myself and my body. And then some photoshop genius would appear and I'd be a skinny little thing with perfect skin and no flabby bits!
Well I like my flabby bits!
I think its unfair to manipulate peoples bodies digitally, it creates un-real images for both viewer and model.

Oops sorry! I hadn´t heard the term glamour modelling, so I assumed it was like catwalk/normal modelling. I just looked up the term on wikipedia. I understand now.

Anyways, I guess it doesn´t take much to be a glamour model. It seems like it could be fun though. I certainly wouldn´t look down on someone for doing it. Plus, the less-intelligent ones are probably just more popular in the media because ignorance tends to be more entertaining than intelligence. I´m sure there are plenty that are smart that we just don´t hear about.

Re: What Do You Think Of Glamour Modelling? - January 5th 2010, 02:12 AM

Its brilliant everyones a winner (Y)... Thing is is I don't see where the problem people have with it is; I mean the girls who do it almost are always doing it out of choice, especially glamour modeling for mags and the likes, its not like a bit of cash on the side, they guys get what they want to see, and the girls get the cash .

The people who complain, I don't know where they come from xD Its nothing to do with them, although if someone does raise a valid point I will gladly retract that statement. But people say they don't like the womans body being looked in that way or used, but its not their body to use ; the girls who do it don't complain!

There are some girls too who later on in life regret what they have done and I have heard of some who do retract their work, so I mean for some the option is there...

All in all if the girl can do it and doesn't mind the lifestyle that will accompany it, GO FOR IT!

I hate how the media idolizes certain unrealistic body types, especially ones obtainable only with photoshop. I really dislike modeling because of that. It's the girl's choice I suppose, but it just causes so many damaging misperceptions, when there are other ways to look beautiful (and in my opinion much, much more beautiful).

I personally don't see a thing wrong with it.
They get paid a hell of a lot for it. and if they're proud of how they look so much so that they'll take thier clothes off then good for them.
I'd love to be that confident.

The only bit I don't like, as everyone else has said, is the fact they photoshop the photos so much that the end result hardly even looks like the model. :/

But if you don't mind that then it's a great way to earn money.
I would so do it if I had the right amount of confidence.

Re: What Do You Think Of Glamour Modelling? - January 6th 2010, 10:42 PM

It is a person's choice of whether or not to go into modeling. If you're getting paid to look beautiful, that's quite the self-esteem boost and I do not see why it would be bad for that individual.

However, I do see a problem with the way the media portrays these models. I hate that if you do not look just like them, you're "ugly" or "fat". Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and I think that the media uses modeling as a way to contradict that.

If someone offered me money to take my clothes off I'd do it. At the end of the day it's a job, and I'm pretty sure they get paid more than I do!

Re: What Do You Think Of Glamour Modelling? - January 7th 2010, 01:28 PM

I have a strong image in my mind that my cousin will become a glamour model soon. She's currently doing underwear shoots and is just a model. However if you look at some of the poses she's in on her facebook pictures you'd probably agree with me. It's up to her at the end of the day, she's a pretty girl and if she wants to get paid for that I don't really see the problem. However, I'm 90% sure a few of her photos are photoshopped, unless she has lost some weight from the last time I seen her in real life. She wasn't "big" then at all, but a healthy enough weight.

I may not really like the idea of the girl who once invited me to her 10th birthday party doing that, but

She is a smart girl, if you talked to her for the first time you probably wouldn't think that, you just need to get to know her.
