Roman Polanski - January 11th 2010, 05:21 AM

I don't know if many of you have heard about the Roman Polanski sexual assualt case. I for one only came across it by accident. Roman Polanski is a big time film director, he directed "The Pianist" amoung other things. In 1977 he drugged and raped a 13 year old girl. He was charged by the grand jury with rape by use of drugs, perversion, sodomy, lewd and lascivious act upon a child under fourteen, and furnishing a controlled substance to a minor, but in order to keep the girl safer her laywer agreed to a deal. However this deal brought his charge down to simply statutory rape.

He was just arrested for the assualt again last month, not sure exactly why. Anyway the main reason I'm writing this is because the majority of Hollywood supports Polanski and thinks he should be released. The man raped a 13 year old but because he was only found/plead guilty to statutory rape and not "rape rape" they think he should be home free. Does anyone else find this sickening.

This wikipedia page is the best group on information I can find on the whole topic.

Well, I love Polanski films, and I know he had a terribly brutal childhood, but just cause you're famous and talented doesn't exempt you from the law.

I think he was arrested again for fleeing the country, and not for actually raping the girl.

A trial that's been on hold for thirty three years, because he hasn't returned. That's why he was arrested again.

What he did was wrong, but that was thirty three years ago. He is in his late seventies now, so of course Hollywood supports dropping it. The girl, who's over forty, supports dropping it. It's gone on too long, and he's not really a threat anymore.

It's this that is the problem though. And maybe not all of Hollywood shares this opinoin but this opinion is crazy.

I mean first of all Woopi is claiming that statutory rape is not "rape rape" which on some levels is true. I don't believe that a 15 year old having sex with her 18 year old boyfriend is "rape rape" though it is considered a form of rape under the law. However DRUGGING a 13 year old and then having sex with her is rape. Even if the parents knew about it it's rape. And it's so screwed up that anyone would say anything different.

I saw a documentary about him ages ago. Did he not leave America for absolute decades, with few people knowing where he was?
