CBS Rejects Gay Dating Site Super Bowl Ad - January 30th 2010, 04:40 PM

CBS has rejected an ad from gay dating site ManCrunch, telling the site that the ad "is not within the Network's Broadcast Standards for Super Bowl Sunday."

I don't think the ad is good enough for the super bowl. Honestly, the Super Bowl should have better ones then that.

Ugh, that was dreadful. So obnoxiously cheesy. Not even funny . Make a better one!

I think the ad is funny, but not up to super bowl standards.

that lives up to super bowl standards. cbs wouldnt accept it even if it was better. they just hate us.

It would probably offend too many viewers (if you asked CBS), think of the audience, it will mostly be middle-aged men will it not?

Personally, I don't care what ads play. If I was watching it I wouldn't sit around to watch the ads, someone needs to refill the beer and snacks, right? Isn't that how it goes? Haha.

Although, "ManCrunch" sounds a little strange for a dating site.

I don't watch sports anymore, but the super bowl commercials are often the best part

Re: CBS Rejects Gay Dating Site Super Bowl Ad - January 31st 2010, 12:45 AM

It doesn't really live up to the Super Bowl standards, but we all know that as soon as this catches wind we're going to have a few people saying CBS and the whole world of media is homophobic.
It reminds me of this guy that I went to school with, whenever we were picking teams for sports he'd get picked last. Every time he was picked last he would say "It's cause I'm black isn't it!?". The real reason was just that he sucked at sports.

It's the same old situation, just with new people and at a different level.

Hi Everyone!!

I hope you're OK.

I'm glad the ad was rejected. It looks more like a local community TV station ad than something you might see during the Super Bowl. Besides - I don't like the message. It feeds into the idea that 'gay equals uncontrolled lust'. When you see ads for straight dating services - that's not the message they give. [Usually] Those ads are about finding someone to LOVE and to spend your life with. I don't object to their being gay focused ads during the Super Bowl. But wouldn't it be nice to see something that emphasizes the FACT that gay people really are - for the most part - just like everyone else? AND that 'being gay' isn't 'just about SEX'?

Re: CBS Rejects Gay Dating Site Super Bowl Ad - January 31st 2010, 05:59 AM

It's funny how when someone rejects something of a minority, even in my mind I want to jump to the conclusion that it was merely the fact that they are a minority. I'm torn on whether I figure it's Super Bowl material or not, so I assume they flipped to the side that it's not.

I'm sure they reject a million and two commercials each year as well. I certainly would want my commercial there if I had one.

Good point, it makes the site seem like a hook up site rather than a dating site. No adverts for heterosexual sites are like that.

Thinks like match.com, eharmony, you can look for homosexual partners on those sites too I believe. Why don't the advertisers for these sites start using images of homosexual couples too? That would be a great step in the right direction.

This was the same point I was going to make.

When I first saw this thread I was like "oh they denied it because it has to do with being gay, typical" Then I saw it and I was kind of upset and I am glad that CBS denied. The message it sends is not a good one at all. And, Idk it almost makes it look as if being gay is a choice something people just choose one day. IDK if anyone else got that impression but it wasn't like any dating site commercial I have seen in my life.
