Winter Olympics - Opening Ceremonies - What did you think? - February 13th 2010, 08:53 AM

Hi Everyone!!

I hope you're having a super duper day.

First off - did you watch the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver?

If you did...... what did you think of it?

ME?

I actually went 'wow' out loud when I saw the WHALES!! That was pretty neat. In fact - the whole part between when the ice started to crack and when the ballet dancers were dancing to classical music within the 'big trees' - was very impressive. I also especially liked K.D. Lang. She REALLY 'aced' her own song.

I can't say that I liked the fiddle music part much. Then again - I had no idea that fiddles were so important to ME!! [And other Canadians] OR the girl flying over the prairies.

I also can't say I enjoyed that male singer from Quebec either. But that opera singer who sang the Olympic song was very good.

Over all - it was very impressive.

What did you like the best? What did you like the least?

GREAT BIG HUG
Craig!!

it's shame that it was all a bit overshadowed by the luge crash.

the only bit i find that interesting is when the athletes come out because the commentators say a bit about each nation and what to expect from them, so for clueless people like me it's helpful!

i liked the snowboarder at the beginning :] but i didn't really like all the fiddle music part, either.. it went on for a bit too long. i thought that young girl singing the canadian anthem was good.. even though the sound didn't mach her mouth [probably because of the echo in the stadium?]

i love how the jamaicans have 1 athlete.. i hope he wins!!!!

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..

I liked Sarah Mclachlan's song and all the special affects like the whales.

Idk if it was just the US or not, but here the should the world premiere of "We are the world" remake. Which I loved for Haiti.

I enjoyed it, it showcased Canada quite well. I'm surprised Hockey wasn't more prominent.
I did think the priaries section was a little long. I also expected more dancers around. The tap-dancing was great, and the effects on the ground. Certainly a great Winter Olympic ceremony, one of the best. Although, not much will be able to beat the Beijing opening.
Vancouver's ceremony made me proud of the country I live in.
I don't think people who've never been to/lived in Canada will have understood parts of it, but it was good. I didn't like how Nikki Yanofsky sung the national anthem, she should stick to 'I believe'.

WAS it a girl flying over the prairies? I could have sworn that was a dude...
I liked the fiddle part! even though I didn't know that that was an importand part of our culture, lol. Now that I think of it, there wasn't a single cowboy either, alberta didn't represent, wtf?

Overall, I was happy with it

I think it went pretty well, other than the 4 arms not all rising up lol. The fiddle part was actually pretty good along with the tap-dancing and singing. Some parts I thought were a bit too stretched out and weren't always exciting but to each their own.
