What are your thoughts on homosexuals? - March 27th 2010, 01:46 PM

I was reading through the forums and this thought popped into my head. I am perfectly fine with it since I, myself, am bisexual.

I think I'm one of the only people at my school who view them as just. people.

Either people hate them, or love them. Like, love them with a passion. I'm not sure why really. I just see them as another person, just like a straight person... I don't see what the difference is.

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

My thoughts are why does it matter? What other people do or want to do behind closed doors doesn't affect me so all the power to them.

Re: What are your thoughts on homosexuals? - March 28th 2010, 05:27 AM

It's hard for me to view homosexuality as "normal," if I'm going to be honest, and I don't completely understand it at times, but I'm far from against it. Actually, I embrace it. I think it's great that people are willing to push past the discrimination that they face from others in order to be with the people who they truly care about. I think it adds a whole new meaning to love, because you obviously care a lot about someone if you're going to face the negative opinions others may have about you in order to be with them. It's pretty sweet, if you ask me.

I don't see homosexual people as any different than anyone else, though. Sexual identity shouldn't define who we are.

Who am I to judge?
I don't dislike somebody just because they're gay, but I won't automatically like anyone just because they are either.

I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

If they're nice to me I'm fine with them, just as I would be with heterosexuals, bisexuals etc.

Most of my close friends are gay anyway and I'm pansexual, our school has a very high homosexuality rate it seems.

Actually in a lot of cases homosexuals lead their lives different ways. I've heard about a gay guy getting a job as a go-go dancer, living the club life. I don't know why but sometimes that just comes with being homosexual. There are many different ways, but what I'm trying to say is that hetero or homo lifestyles can be totally different.

I think it's unnatural and genetically a chromosomal disorder. Yes, that's right-- I believe homosexuality is a 'disease' persay.
Regardless, people have the right to do what they want.
I wouldn't hate a gay rapist because they're gay.. I'd hate them because they're a rapist!

No offence, but I found your 'go for it; it's a free country' option sliiiightly implied that it was an optional matter ~ even though I'm sure you didn't mean it like that!!so I voted that i was a homosexual, even though I'm really bi. Still though, I have a fair few gay friends and you know, I like girls myself...so no problem with it.

I don't have anything against homosexual people. Everyone has the right to live their life in the way that they want, we were each given free will. I do realise sexuality is something you cannot choose, but i mean in terms of publically expressing their affections. It's up to the individual, who am i to criticise? Love is love, and if it makes a said person happy - go for it, because this life is too short.

& it's just like she's in another world.

Re: What are your thoughts on homosexuals? - March 28th 2010, 09:29 PM

I met quite a few gay/lesbian/bisexual etc. people at university, some of whom were really good friends. To my mind, their sexuality didn't bother me in the slightest - people are people, and I always the remember the phrase "Do not judge, and you will not be judged". I'm not gay or bisexual myself, but that hasn't made me shun people because of their sexuality. I will admit I did get weirded out the first time one of my gay friends (jokingly) flirted with me, but after that I never had any problems and certainly felt they shouldn't be treated any differently from anyone else.

So yeah, it doesn't bother me really - as I said, people are people.

That seems nothing more than saying that lifestyles can differ between two different people; which is true, but I don't see how sexuality comes into it at all.

You heard about one gay guy getting a job as a go-go dancer? I'm not sure what that even has to do with it? Surely it's none of your business what people decide to do with their lives. And even if you disapprove of it you can't assume all gay people are the same.

I think I'm one of the only people at my school who view them as just. people.

Either people hate them, or love them. Like, love them with a passion. I'm not sure why really. I just see them as another person, just like a straight person... I don't see what the difference is.
I feel the same way, really... Unless they hit on me, knowing I'm heterosexual. My friendships don't change when I find out my friends have discovered they're bisexual or whatever. *Shrugs* To each their own, but if I don't want to be directly involved, respect THAT as well.

i think it's fine, some of my friends are gay and they're really smart, cool, and funny. they are some of my favorite people so i really don't care if someone is gay or not.

Re: What are your thoughts on homosexuals? - March 28th 2010, 11:31 PM

I have a problem with this poll for several reasons:

1. If you're bisexual, you're kind of shooting yourself in the foot on the first option. You said "it". Are homosexuals its now? Perhaps the poll would be better if you asked "what are your VIEWS on HOMOSEXUALITY?" That way "it" would be referring to "homosexuality", which is more suitable.

2. The third option shouldn't even be an option, or at least worded differently. How can you be a homosexual, and I'm not talking about a "in the closet homosexual but hates homosexuals" homosexual, how can you believe that being a homosexual is NOT okay? It would of been different if it said "I am homosexual/bisexual"

3. The 4th option seems kind of bias. "Free country" can be debated. It would've been better if you said "I find nothing wrong with homosexuality".

4. Just because you disagree with something doesn't mean you find it disgusting. Possibly. But if you said "I disagree with homosexuality", it doesn't matter how STRONGLY you disagree with it...it's just the simple fact that you disagree with it (for whatever reason).

Now that I cleared that up...I chose the 2nd option. I don't really care about homosexuality. I've been hit on by a couple dudes, and they're really nice people and don't intentionally try to make me feel uncomfortable so I don't think much of it. But the other stuff like gay marriage or PDA is debatable.

Nice to know that there are two people on TH who find homosexuality "disgusting". So reassuring, that.

... one gay guy, and yet you don't have a problem with there being hundreds of women who act like that?

I'm neither a geneticist nor a preacher, so I can't determine if homosexuality is a genetic anomaly, a voluntary and abominable sin, or somewhere in between. A person's sexual orientation doesn't matter to me at all.

If it's true that it's genetic, then it can't be changed by discussion, persuasion, argument, or any other such methods, or by any conventional scientific method. If it's a personal choice and the individual who is a homosexual is voluntarily doing so with the "knowledge" that it's a sin, then let them do as they may, and if that is true, then I suppose they'll go to Hell. Either way, they aren't harming anyone else, so why should it matter to other people what someone's sexual preference is?

Excellent, you hear of one homosexual getting a certain job and you automatically assume that all others do that. Let me put it in terms you may be able to understand: Suppose a Christian priest goes and has sex with a minor child, so I say all Christians molest or have sex with underage, prepubescent children. For the sake of this, I'm lumping all Catholics, Mormons, etc... into the label of Christianity simply for this example to be a proper analogy, and yes you are part of this group. We both know that's not true though, at least not for all Christians, so perhaps you can see why judging an entire group from just 1 person can be such nonsense.

I pick the first option because none of the others fit. I'm for homosexuality but regarding the fourth statement of "it's a free country", that's not entirely true so the rationale that the fourth option states I do not support. The others, except the first I don't agree with.
