Geography professor claims to have found Osama bin Laden - February 19th 2009, 04:26 PM

Quote:
Using patterns of how animal species spread, the world's most wanted terrorist can be tracked down to a town in the tribal region of North West Pakistan it is claimed.
By factoring in his need for security, electricity, high ceilings to accommodate his 6ft 4in frame and spare rooms for his bodyguards, the search can be further narrowed to three walled compounds.
According to a team led by Thomas Gillespie, at the University of California in Los Angeles, bin Laden's location is "one of the most important political questions of our time".
Mathematical models used to explain how animal species spread out say he should be close to where he was last spotted.

Opinions? Is this likely to lead to anything?

Personally, it sounds like something out of Numb3rs, but hey, if it works, he's probably going to become the most famous expert in geography in recent history.

Oh yeah. Awesome. Release it to the media as soon as you figure it out, ya dink.

People wonder why he keeps escaping... I think it's because he has a blackberry and visits CNN on the regular.

Um. I highly doubt he figured it out BUT it would be really cool if he is right. :]

Pretty much. Still, this reminds me of the news reporter who gave away the position of an American attack force, and caused the death of two dozen or so soldiers.

Certain things should just not be released to the media.

We don't lose much by at least looking into it, though I doubt he's there. And releasing this to the media... maybe not a bright idea.

There've been a lot of reports like this in the past, people who've supposedly found Bin Laden. If the guy really knew his location, I doubt he'd release it to the media..
