The Australia Sex Party - November 8th 2010, 10:22 AM

I never got around to posting this when the election was on but I figured I should give it a go.

One of the newest parties in Australian politics; the Australian Sex Party or simply, The Sex Party.

I agree with some of their policies such as workplace equality and a secular government but their general ethos doesn't do much for infrastructure or the economy.

Basically, I thought the idea was interesting and slightly amusing.

In the election, they received a little over 2% of the national senate vote but no seats.

For anyone interested in more, the page on wikipedia is nicely clear cut and easy to read.

I think some of their policies are actually quite good, it's a shame they didn't get any seats. I want a party like this in Britian

Some of the policies do make sense, but at the same time there are some notable contradictions (e.g. promoting equality while at the same time imposing positive discrimination in the Parliament) and the villifying of religion is getting a bit old hat now. I would in particular question why the Royal Commission should focus solely on child abuse in religious institution and not child abuse in all institutions (schools, care homes, youth clubs etc.) and what the validity is of banning all tax breaks for religious organisations when small businesses and other non-profit organisations will still be entitled to them. That smacks somewhat of discrimination if I'm honest.

Anyway, it's a free country I suppose.

I think the idea is they're very against the way currently, religious organisations are positively discriminated.

I don't support the idea too strongly however, I really do support the idea of a secular government.

They have a very 'fresh' ethos (I suppose you could say), but before going anywhere near power, they need to have good policy on all aspects of government such as environment, economics and infrastructure.

Another party I saw on the ballot this year...

The Climate Change Skeptics

I watched a debate with them, and thought they had some interesting points and ideas. Better then the Family First Party, which they were debating against.
