"Peadophile's Guide" removed from Amazon - November 11th 2010, 04:13 PM

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010...dophiles-guide

I was wondering what people thought of this. I'm all for freedom of speech and books not being heavily censored, but I think that this book crossed the line - it's absolutely disgusting that something like this has been published in the first place, in my opinion.

What do you think?

I heard about this before. Actually, I think someone may have posted it here. I agree :| I think this is just mocking freedom of speech. It's disgusting :/ I'm shocked it was allowed also. It kind of makes me want to write a "how to find, torture and kill a paedophile" guide ¬_____¬

I heard about it a while ago too. I think it's outrageous. It should never have even been published.

On one hand, I agree with freedom of speech and think we either have it or we don't.

But on the other hand, I think the book is completely out of line, and I can't imagine why it was published, and I agree with Amazon removing it. It's not a book about sex between two consenting adults- it's about how best to ruin a child's life and shouldn't be allowed.

I doubt it would increase the number of Pedophiles but it certainly wouldn't help decrease the number.

Thank God they finally took that thing down!
There was a thread on this a while ago.

I'm okay with freedom of speech, but this goes WAY over the line.
That book is not a matter of freedom of speech. It's on an entirely different level.
There is no justification for this to ever be allowed.
Whoever wrote this needs to go to jail forever and ever.
It's sick.

I agree with Kitty. I'm all for freedom of speech, but I also agree that with freedom of speech comes the responisblity to use discretion in what you write. Just because I can write a song that says the word F*** 50 billion times does not mean I am required to do such a thing and expect everyone to agree with my taste in music (Personally, I think that music artist that drop the F-bomb more then they say any other word have no creativity in the first place, but that is another issue).

The author should have used discretion in wording, intend, and audience. Even if this was a farce or something, he should have been more careful. Any book can become dangerous. Books transmit ideas, ideas lead to action, actions lead to change. The power of the word should not be underestimated. I honestly wonder if the author knew about this...and considered ultimately what change his words would spark.

also I would like to add something my Music threatre Professor says all the time "It doesn't matter what they say about you, as long as they get your name right." So by even posting this thread, he is getting free advertisement

Food for thought.

I agree this goes way over the line, giving instruction of how to molest a kid is just plain sick.

thought everyone kept saying it was a digital media or something in the past thread...

i stick by what i said then let people buy the books but track the ones who buy it and watch them... sorrta like what they did with the anarchist cookbook anyone who bought it the bookstore in my town told me they had to request id,phone number, address which they then submitted to the local law enforcement agency.... its a lot of work aand might not be cheap but if they did something like that they would probally catch a few people...

Thank goodness! I completely believe in freedom of speech and believe the author has all the right to write what he wants and sell it, but I don't think companies need to support him in doing it.

I thought Amazon crossed the line when they began selling guides to cockfighting and dog fighting...

I support the freedom of speech and the freedom of publication, even if I do not agree what is being said and even if I find it horrendous. So publication - yes.

Amazon is different. It is a company, it does not have to abide by freedom of speech. I'm glad it's down.

Re: "Peadophile's Guide" removed from Amazon - November 13th 2010, 08:05 AM

I heard about this a while ago on TV and the person read small bits from the book just to show how disgusting the content was. When I heard it was being sold online from eBay (perhaps it was Amazon and I was wrong it was eBay) the same show, I thought it'd have been taken down a long time ago. I thought publishers wouldn't publish all types of content and I can understand how dog-fighting and cock-fighting books would be sold (i.e. history of them, perhaps with pictures and describing how the animals are trained). But for a book that is simply a "how to guide" for molestation, rape, etc... of children in immense detail, I'd have thought the author(s) would've been suspected by the police immediately by reporting the username and any computer details. I have no problem with Amazon selling the book because I don't think there's a policy saying they cannot.
