On your period? Red bracelet for you madam - December 3rd 2010, 04:56 AM

http://thestir.cafemom.com/in_the_ne...women_on_their

Quote:
A boss in Norway is requiring menstruating females to wear red bracelets so that it's clear to everyone in the office that they are having their period. The thinking -- if it can be called that -- behind this new policy is to help monitor bathroom breaks; the bracelets signal why these women are using the restroom more often...[more to article in link]
Ok, I know its a blog as a source, not a news site or whatever. But it's not so much about the reliability of the source, but the concept she's talking about.

I personally found the article funny, but she's right. I don't need to entire rest of staff to know if I'm bleeding. It's a horrible enough experience as it is, without needing a bunch of people I may not be particularly close to knowing. The only people I tell in my personal life are my best friends and relationship partners. And since when do offices really watch the toilet breaks of adult staff? It's not like they are going anywhere fun, even if they don't geniunely need the toilet. Is there like some toilet trip limit for men, and women not currently menstrating? It's ridiculas, and an invasion of privacy.

Hahaha there is NO WAY I would ever wear something like that. That's crazy. The whole world doesn't need or want to know when a woman is on her period.

That's the red bracelet Kabbalah people wear for their religion.
Why not wear a sign with bold letters.

Oh my goodness! It's nobody's business if I'm on my period! Besides, unless you have extremely heavy periods, you only need to go to the washroom every 2 to 3 hours. That's not that distruptive to your work.

I don't know whether to laugh or punch something. Why must they monitor bathroom breaks? If you've gotta go, you've gotta go, and you don't have to tell the rest of the world why...

I'd never go along with this. It's sexist and pointless.

If they're gonna do that to women, they should come up with a male equivalent.

Exactly.

I like the article's suggestions though. Wearing the bracelet gives me the right to use a heating pad at work, pump myself full of midol, and complain about how bad my cramps are

There are things that can make men need to pee more, as well as women. For example, we could give bracelets for UTIs, or STIs that need creams applied every so often, diarrehea and other medical conditions (doesn't diabeties make you need to pee more sometimes.). It seems silly they only have a bracelet for periods.

No one would think it's ok to make people wear bands for that.

This made me laugh. For one, no one in her right mind will wear a bracelet annonucing it to the rest of the world. Also, why do they need to monitor bathroom breaks? That's dumb. At work, if we have to go, we just tell the closest person "Going to the bathroom, watch my station" and leave. (I work food service.)It's Ridic.

Seems like all the men on the thread need to be smacked.

I do NOT need anyone to know when I'm on my period. It's not their concern. No doubt a man came up with this policy. Ugh.
If I'm really heavy and have to work, I'll talk to my team leads and let them know what's going on.... If my team lead is a male, I'll talk to one of the female LOD's instead, because it really seems like men don't understand. I actually have gotten yelled at for going to the bathroom too frequently by this one jerk (who finally got fired ) because he didn't understand why I was having to leave my register every 30 minutes. I told him it was either that, or he was buying me a new pair of khaki's.

This is ridicualous, and sexist to the extreme. If you are so crunched on prodcutivity that you need to moniter bathroom breaks THAT heavily, then your company is insane.

In fast food at least, if we were in a rush, you pretty much had to stand at your station, but you were allowed to leave it to go tinkle or change your pad if you needed to (yes...i knew when some women went to change pads because there was always at lesat one woman who would have to run to her car and grab "something" from there before going to the bathroom ) But you only have to do it about every three to four hours or so, and you can fudge it fifteen minutes either way, right?

In Idaho (where I use to work) we had a ten minute break for every four hours of continuous work. If it was not busy and your station was stocked and clean, you could call on that break form the manager. We are not going to lose thousands of dollars from women changing their freaking tampons

I think its funny/stupid. No one needs to know when you're uterus is shedding! I mean its just another reason to piss us females off! I mean if a male teacher gives me crap about going to the bathroom I simply yell: DO YOU WANT ME TO BLEED ON YOUR FLOOR?! Then they let me go potty.

That's...messed up. I know that some people are fine announcing it to the world when they have their period, but not everybody. My girlfriend refused to even tell me when she had hers until a year into our relationship haha.

Hahahahah

Anyways I would never wear that. Nobody needs to know when im on my period. If people get snippy about me having to use the bathroom then I might tell them to shut them up but other than that there's no reason for them to know.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd have absolutely no problem wearing it... to be honest, I'd appreciate everyone knowing I'm on my period. It's not that big of a deal...? I mean, it's not a huge secret... everyone knows you're going to get it...

Keeping it simple, I think it's bullshit. Whoever came up with this idea should have them bracelets rung round their neck like some tribes do in africa.

"I don't care about politics"
Then politics doesn't care about you either. Truth. You've got to make your voice heard, if you want to be listened to. But that's too logical for some people, so let me go a step further. Not making your voice heard, leaves other people free to hijack it by speaking on your behalf, even if they don't actually give a shit about you. That's politics. So, make your voice heard. That's not a quote from anywhere. That's just me.

As tears fall from my eyes,I realized I didn't know them as much as I knew everyone else,Yet what I knew was they where apart of me in different ways,And as I watched them be put in the ground,Their spirits floating,Apart of me went with them...........You will forever be missed and loved...Never forgotten

I refuse to wear something that tells the world I'm on my period. It's none of their business and most people wouldn't want to know.
Like others have said, I'd either wear it everyday and take full advantage just to piss them off or never wear it and make it seem like I don't have a period to begin with.
