Man marries pet dog - December 6th 2010, 01:47 AM

http://www.news.com.au/weird-true-fr...-1225965042831

A YOUNG Toowoomba man yesterday tied the knot with his best friend - a five-year-old labrador named Honey.

In perhaps a first for the Garden City, Laurel Bank Park hosted the wedding of Joseph Guiso and Honey, a labrador he adopted five years ago.
Thirty of the couple's closest friends and family were in attendance for the emotional ceremony, held at dusk.
"You're my best friend and you make every part of my day better," Mr Guiso's vows read.
The couple decided on the location - and to tie the knot - after stumbling upon a wedding in Laurel Bank Park during an afternoon walk.
"I said that could be us," Mr Guiso said.
"She didn't say anything so I took that as a yes."
Mr Guiso said as a "religious guy", he could no longer take the guilt of living with Honey out of wedlock.

"It's not sexual," he assured the onlookers.
"It's just pure love."
The couple is planning a short honeymoon to one of Toowoomba's parks

I don't know what to say about this...

and if you should hear the cries and calls
through the thinnest of the walls
don't you get yourself so blue
it's just the sound of me getting over you

It also sounds like it is some sort of statement. Since Australia banned same sex marriage, I'd imagine this is related.

This truly makes me despise my Government. They have allowed beastial marriage, and not same-sex marriage upon grounds of which are unknown to the public.
Julia Gillard may be revolutionary as a Prime Minister, being the first female PM of Australia and an atheist, but only in image. She is utterly pathetic, keeping same sex-marriage banned purely for votes.

Re: Man marries pet dog - December 6th 2010, 06:24 AM

I really don't know what to say about this. Hopefully he's just doing this to send a clear message (and if that's the case...I fully support that), but if he's actually marrying a dog because he's in "love" with it, then I gotta feel bad for the guy. He'll be happy, but he won't really benefit from it as much as he'd like. It's not like she has any money to give him, any motivation to support an adopted child, any means of getting pregnant with a human being. He's definitely not getting married for a religious reason because...it's a dog, therefore he must not be very religious. So if he's not getting married for financial reasons, for religious reasons, then why have the marriage in the first place? These are the types of stories of why I'm not longer against gay marriage. Remember the story back in...whenever where that woman married an amusement park ride? A woman marrying a woman is more beneficial than a woman marrying a roller coaster ride. Yes, she felt happy and fulfilled that she was marrying a roller coaster ride, but we have to remember that you don't have to be married to someone to be fulfilled or to be happy. So if it's for only those two reasons, they're either trying to prove a point about the flawed government systems, or they're fucked up in the head. But really...is it really them who are fucked up for marrying a dog and roller coaster, or is it the government, as a whole, who is fucked up for even allowing that but not gay marriage? To me...that just doesn't make sense.

I'm suspicious on this one...

The couple is planning? I'm sorry but since when did he speak dogish or when did the dog talk?

Other than the obvious, something else strikes me as odd. We can have a man marrying a potentially unwilling non-human animal and may have sex with it but two humans may not be able to marry one another? I know people do stupid things and there's screwed up shit in this world but is it getting this screwed up? Can a man marry a cat then be called polygynist when he's petting another cat yet two people cannot marry one another? I suspect the next thing will be marrying a plant if that hasn't been done yet.

I feel sorry for their kids. I dont imagine them fitting in well at school.

"I don't care about politics"
Then politics doesn't care about you either. Truth. You've got to make your voice heard, if you want to be listened to. But that's too logical for some people, so let me go a step further. Not making your voice heard, leaves other people free to hijack it by speaking on your behalf, even if they don't actually give a shit about you. That's politics. So, make your voice heard. That's not a quote from anywhere. That's just me.

Wonder what they'd say if it were a male dog. I just think it's ridiculous, not that he married the dog, but the fact that he can but there can't be same sex marriage in a lot of places. I mean, if he loves the dog, let him be happy with it.

Just thought I'd point out that a lot of people love their pets, and hardly any choose to marry them

I found this story to be funny at first, but after reading some of the other comments, I've begun to be a little irked that same-sex marriage is still "against the rules". I hadn't even thought of that when I first read the article.

If ever confronted about why I believe that same-sex marriages should be allowed, I think I'm going to cite this story. How can anyone argue against two men or women getting married, if this guy marries a dog? :P

That is exactly what I thought when I read the thread. >.>

Still. If a guy wants to marry his dog, good for him. The government shouldn't control what somebody does as long as it doesn't restrict upon the immediate rights of someone else. So if a guy wants to marry a dog, or a girl wants to marry a girl, by all means let them, it's their own decisions.

Re: Man marries pet dog - December 8th 2010, 06:50 AM

I think, for one, that it's more of a statement then anything else. The few things the guy said make it seem more like a statement about something else... Also, I'm pretty sure they are not legally married, but married in a weird sense. It's hard to explain, but if you can legally marry people, you can hold a ceremony without the marriage being legal where you live. Like, I can legally marry people through the World Church? or whatever it was(I was sixteen xD) but just because I 'marry' them, does not always make the marriage legal. It just makes it seem like a offical union of two souls. I mean, if he wants to marry his dog, for whatever reason, then so be it for him. As long as he isn't doing things to the dog, I could care less, it is his life, after all.
