So I heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago that two brothers got into a fight over a half-eaten peice of fried chicken. The one brother who's peice of chicken it was bashed the other in the head with a crowbar and caused him perminant brain damage for eating his half-eaten peice of chicken. Also on the show Cops I saw a guy go to jail because he beat up a 16 year old girl for taking his peice of bologna. The guy was hauled off to jail and didn't get to finish is sandwich that he beat this girl up for. Was it worth it dude? I think people are going a bit crazy these days. Anybody else think so?

Look at your second last sentence. People "these days" aren't going crazy when you look through history. For example, in some cultures and times, if you stole something you'd get your hand (or possibly arm) chopped off or horribly mutilated it couldn't function to grab anything. Whether this was a radish or a piece of jewlerry, same effect. Alternatively, people may be punished by public humiliation where it was encouraged for other citizens to beat and pummel that particular individual.
