Dow ends below 7,000 for first time since '97 - March 2nd 2009, 08:23 PM

A blizzard of selling swept the Dow Jones industrials to its first close below 7,000 in almost 12 years Monday as despair grew that the recession would be longer and more painful than many investors expected. The first trading day of the month was a rout, dragging the Dow down to another misery milestone: It has lost more than half its value since it hit a record high above 14,000 in October 2007. On Friday, stocks ended February with six straight months of losses.
This is not shocking.

Breaking News! Economy is bad. Stay tuned for these hard-hitting stories: Sky is Blue and Afternoon now comes After Noon.
:P

Seriously, the DOW is such a weird mix of sociology and business. It's a bit ridiculous.

Historically, the Dow has been worse with a Dem majority... just thought I'd tell you all that. Every time that Reps get power, the Dow goes up, and when the Dems get power, it goes down. Coincidence?

Yea it really went up during the Bush admin. I especially loved how the Middle Class shrank, wages froze, the rich however.... got richer. Don't worry, my friend is a millionaire and has my back. His family is doing GREAT, lol. And he hates Bush but there's nothing wrong with making a ton of money from the suffering of others. Just because the market goes up doesn't mean that the Middle Class is doing good...

And where exactly are you getting that info from?

Surprise: Dems are better for rallies

Democrats or Republicans? Just the facts
http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/...esidents_x.htm

"Despite these well-established characterizations of each party's position, a 2003 study conducted at the University of California's Anderson School produced numbers that reveal significantly better stock market returns when the nation's highest office is held by a Democrat. Read on to find out more."

http://www.investopedia.com/articles...ck-returns.asp

"Democratic presidents generate average stock market returns in excess of the risk-free rate of 10.69% -- roughly six times the 1.69% earned under Republican administrations."
