'Mysterious boom' may have been sonic. - March 5th 2009, 05:01 PM

This morning I heard two really large sounds followed by what I thought were little earth quakes. So I went online, turns they think it might be sonic booms. People have been reported hearing them since Tuesday in other parts of California, I for sure I have heard two this morning. Itís really freaky.

Video & News Article

Quote:
ORANGE, Calif. (KABC) -- That "mysterious boom" rattled a lot of nerves and a lot of windows Tuesday night. Local authorities were swamped with phone calls from anxious residents. Orange County seems to have gotten the worst of it.
Some people say it felt like an earthquake, although they say their homes didn't shake, but they heard rattling of doors and windows. Others thought someone was trying to break in to their homes.

What was it that could have made a sonic boom? Most sonic booms occur only in isolated areas.

Anything which breaks the speed of sound will cause a sonic boom. It could well be an aerial phenomenon like a change in he jet stream

Although it could have also had been the epic blue hedgehog <3

Well we do have a few military bases in the area, about fourty minutes away, but normally they do not conduct things like this over the towns, they usually go out over the ocean. So it is really creepy. That news article that I linked says the military reported that it was not them that made the sound, but then again when does the military tell the news anything. For sure though, it is really causing some unrest out here.
