Policy because of visitors to Dundee... - March 5th 2009, 09:31 PM

The bins, have been taped over, and the drains sealed. Why? Because the Labour party are having a conference in the Caird hall. This is to stop Bomb threats, and emails have been passed round my work. "What to do if there is a bomb".

I find this rediculous. Why on earth would someone go to as much trouble? You could easily cut the tapes, which is over the bins, but as my dad says they get checked... but by the time someone checks the bins a "bomb" could have went off.

Major flaws in this stupid plan.

You're thoughts? Is this TOO much? Personally I think so.

i really have no idea... whats the use in having bins if they're taped over??
... why not get rid of the bins all together... problem solved =D

That seems ridiculous, there have been loads of labour party conferences in Brighton and they never went to such extremes. There were just, very paranoid, armed police everywhere.

I know. They complain about litter, and continue to tape over all the bins in the city square. I know the roads going into the centre are blocked off too (NIGHTMARE).

Anyway I did find it funny that all staff in my work apart from me, got the "what to do if there's a bomb scare" email.

Far too much... there wasn't this big a deal when the G8 came to Prestwick airport on their way somewhere.
Yeah there was security, but not to this extent.
Far too over the top in my opinion.

Removing the tape would be more noticeable than just tossing something in the bin. That said, they ought to do what DC does, when they come. Send every police officer to where they will be, so people can cause a ruckus anywhere else in the city.

Obviously you haven't been to dundee. The security was ridiculous when I passed on saturday, the amount of people that were near the Ciard hall, and them doing things like that, someone could have easily blown the place up.
Then again, coming from a northern irish person I probably should stop talking like I could do it better, someone might take me seriously

Its rediculous though. On saturday, maybe fair enough with security as there were protests outside - hence all the people you seen, but wouldn't more police be sufficient?

As for removing the tape being more obvious, I doubt it, since they weren't even taped up properly.

Oh and on the + side... we can use the bins again! :P
Untaped.
