NEW UK EMAIL LAW! - March 15th 2009, 12:49 PM

There is a new law concerning emails in the UK, which started this month. All details of emails sent and recieved are being kept by Internet Service Providers for one year.

I feel uneasy about this, as I for one think many things will end up going wrong. I don't trust the government to be able to use it responsibly.

I heartily agree with that quote. Link can be found

I don't anyway

I just find it unnerving since there is the possibility it may be used for the wrong reasons.

I'm more bothered about government incompetency than it being used against criminals.

Knowing the UK they'll probably put in onto a disk and lose it like they normally do.

Well, to be honest they aren't going to go through every single email are they?
I don't email anyway, so that's fine by me.

I'd like to see them try

Anyway, I can just imagine some scandal arising for it being used in the wrong manner. I know they can't see the contents of the email *supposedly*, but I just find it eerie.

I don't like the idea of this. I wouldn't want someone to be able to read through my email messages. What if my parents wanted to have access to them, for instance? That could end horribly.

As long as they use it responsibly and dont read any of my personal messages then im ok. It wouldnt suprise me if universities and employers would be able to get a record of them ...now that would be horrible! Just censor your messages people! :-)

Re: NEW UK EMAIL LAW! - March 15th 2009, 05:03 PM

Whenever you write something online, it's going to be in cyberspace forever, and anyone can access it if they have the right tools/time/the desire to do so. Honestly, sounds like just an easier way for the government to find emails and such. I don't agree with it at all but, I can see how it'll save them time in the future.

Ah, i heard about this and i can't say i'm too pleased. The government over here is so irresponsible and they say they will use it for good but how many corrupt people are there in government? They'll use it to their advantage.

Um... if you want something to be private do not send it on the internet. It's way too easy to hack into someone's internet. I'm not sure how I would feel about this if it happened here. I'm kind of neutral, because you can't expect anything on the internet to be private anyway.

From what you said, you said it's kept within the ISPs. They probably won't go through them unless there is a legal issue to bring up.
