"Obama blasts AIG 'outrage,' will try to block bonuses" - March 16th 2009, 06:12 PM

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/...ses/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Barack Obama said Monday he will attempt to block bonuses to executives at ailing insurance giant AIG, payments he described as an "outrage."

"This is a corporation that finds itself in financial distress due to recklessness and greed," Obama told politicians and reporters in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, where he and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner were unveiling a package to aid the nation's small businesses.
The president expressed dismay and anger over the bonuses to executives at AIG, which has received $173 billion in U.S. government bailouts over the past six months.

"Under these circumstances, it's hard to understand how derivative traders at AIG warranted any bonuses, much less $165 million in extra pay. I mean, how do they justify this outrage to the taxpayers who are keeping the company afloat?"

Thoughts?

Here's mine- Good. I don't care how much people care about government regulation, you do not give bonuses out when your company is circling the fucking drain and the economy is in the balance.

I agree but I still think leaders the world over are using the bankers as an easy target. Besides, if the State invested then the state is a shareholder and would thus get a say

I don't know enough about the whole situation to really say, but if they're getting bonuses that the money could be well spent other places, with as much money as they already make?! Then Obama is completely right.

Obama's right. This is TAXPAYER money, not CEO bonus money.

But is this Obama scoring some public opinion points for a noble cause?

Of course it is. Politicians around the world have cottoned on to the fact that you can't lose any votes by bashing the bankers.

So wait, you're all pissed off about 165,000,000$ being put into bonuses for those corporations. But at the same time you're not questioning where the fuck the other 169,835,000,000$ is going!? That's billions people. Yeah, it's bullshit, but we should be asking where the rest of that illegally appropriated money is going instead of focusing just on the bonuses. And maybe our ****ing legislators and senators should actually read what they ****ing sign.
This is mass madness people!!

Let alone signing RETROACTIVE LEGISLATURE! Which is completely against what the framers wanted and what the Founding Fathers warned us against!
Legislator should be pre-emptive, not retroactive!

Edit: For an example. Did any of you even hear or pay attention to the Fed buying up 1,000,000,000,000$ of debt!? Especially governmental bonds? No. You were too busy going apeshit over stupid ****ing bonuses. Have fun with your hyperinflation.
