Oh wow. I'm surprised this could happen. How do you not notice there is something in a container? Even if it wasn't labeled. That's very strange.
I hope now they know there is a problem that nobody else dies. So you have gray hair and you're only 26

When it's in a very poor area, you don't often expect things to be completely sanitary and do expect some rodents to be around. That said, I wouldn't expect food containers to be contain rat poison, whether in the form of a spray or ground-up medications, such as warfarin, so depending on its form, it may not be readily observable to the naked eye. If it was observable, then it's carelessness.
I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
