Good ol' American Book Burning :dem: -

Yes...it's a Cracked article But hear me out.Basically, Libraries around the world are burning and pulping books. They list several reasons why this is needed, but Book Lovers all over the world are still outraged about this. What do you think? Should we burn these books? Or should we make an attempt to save them? Why or Why not? "One of the things I regret the most of being able to imagine anything,

I work at a library, and we do this a lot with outdated informational books, especially computing, educational, and medical books that are no longer relevant. There's no market for them, so we usually send them off to be disposed of.
Nothing else we can do really. We're the last link in the chain before the dump. Often I lie wide awake, thinking of things I could make. But I don’t seem to have the parts to build them. I am so scared of what will kill me in the end, for I am not prepared. I hope I will get the chance to be someone, to be human. ![]() ![]() |

I'm curious, for the books that can be valuable, such as books several hundred years old, why not just scan them so them can be accessed electronically? Granted, there won't be the pleasure of flipping through the pages but at least the content is preserved. This could even be done for unpopular books. The library could always charge a fee for electronic access or just make it free. I know that takes time because the whole book has to be scanned in but it's the best of both worlds: clear out the shelves of unpopular books while maintaining electronic access for anyone who may want it.
I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
