Ice Cream too Racy for moms. -

The ice cream is called "Scweddy Balls" and is based off a SNL skit in the 1990's/ Some parent activists groups got pissy at it and got it banned from several local stores. Do you think that this is Over sensitivity of the parents? Or just Ben and Jerry's not paying attention to demographic offensiveness? I honestly see nothing wrong with the name. The parent groups are moronic for 2 reasons.
First, they ignore the fact people without children buy that particular product. Their focus is solely on vulnerable children, ignoring everyone else who is older. That's the first pile of bullshit. Second, the ignore the fact parents with kids buy that particular product. Their implication is all parents shouldn't buy it (children likely don't have the money to get the ice cream, hence the reliance on parents). It's pushing ignorant paranoid views onto other parents. It's like the religious person who sticks fingers in their ears and babbles away because they cant hear the opposition. That's the second pile of bullshit. They've ruined the opportunity for others who want to try it or have tried it and enjoy the flavour. If they're terrified the name will somehow corrupt their kids or find it too offensive, then don't buy it so it won't enter the household and problem solved. According to the article, some of the parents think if they don't stand up now, then ice cream will have names that are intentionally offensive. They can wear their tin-foil hats and spew paranoia all they want, I don't care but I do care when they begin to ruin opportunities for other people as well as for the stores. It's not going to stop Ben & Jerry's from making that ice cream flavour because presumably the organization of paranoid nut-job parents are infinitesimal compared to those who buy the ice cream or are not offended by the name. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Too bad, don't like it, don't buy it. I love my Schweddy Balls.

I'm a little bit confused. The argument is that the name is inappropriate for younger children. But doesn't the ice-cream have rum balls in it? Personally, I don't think that rum balls are appropriate to give to young children anyway, so what does it matter what the ice-cream is called? Plenty of alcoholic drinks have names that are inappropriate for young children, but it doesn't matter because they won't be consuming them. Shouldn't it be the same case for this?
Honestly, I think that most of the time, parents say they are thinking of the children, but they are actually the ones who are offended by it. This has nothing to do with whether the name is inappropriate for the children. The mothers didn't like it and they are using their children as an excuse. And it seems that Ben & Jerry did the right thing anyway. Far more people are buying this ice-cream than people who are complaining about it. And with the added publicity, they'll make plenty of money off it, so they win in the end. It's not real rum. If we're going to go down the "un child friendly" flavoring lets ban Wine Gums. It's just ice cream! There are Lolly Pops shaped like penis out there! Honestly. It's just food!

I find the name a bit funny, but that's just me. I think the parents are just overprotective and they overreacted. It's not about the name, it's about the quality of the ice cream.
Parents need to chill, like seriously

It just an ice -cream name. Children are not going to know that there is a rude pun intended they are just children, I mean in all honesty there's worse adverts on TV . Like the current malteasers advert aired in the UK. I'm surprised some parent have not kicked up a fuss about the malteasers advert. It's just a name given to some ice-cream, schewddy to me sounds like chew with ddy on the end and s in front . the fact that the word balls is on the end makes it a unsuitable name , balls is just a word. Kids throw and catch and kick a ball around the back yard do they not ? kids play with bouncy balls do they not ? So why not ban that on the grounds of 'its teaching kids that anything ball shaped they can kick ? I'll tell you why - because kids know what to kick and what not kick. kids eat ball shaped crisps , Shall we ban those to ? Hell why not ban ball shaped crisps ? here in the UK we have a brand of crisps called 'Cheesy Balls' . Yes they are just crisps - Yes the name could be considered rude. Yes there is the word balls in the ice cream name.
Balls is simply an every day word. All we have is a bunch over protective melodramatic pre-madonna parents kicking up a fuss. Hell why don't just we ban the word balls altogether ? Reason why we don't do this: Simply because the word balls is an everyday word. I say keep the ice cream and balls to the over protective melodramatic pre-madonna parents. Balls to them!

Stephen Fry has a thing or two to say about this.
The atoms that make up you and me were born in the hearts of suns many times greater than ours and in time our atoms will return once again to reside amongst the stars. Life is but an idle dalliance of the cosmos, frail, and soon forgotten. We have been set adrift in an ocean whose tides we are only beginning to comprehend, and with that maturity has come the realization that we are, at least for now, alone. In that loneliness, it falls to us to shine as brightly as the stars from which we came.
