In developed countries such as the UK, USA etc... things like this go through very extensive testing, research and development. Usually it comes with a higher price in the production stages. Chinese manufacturers frequently skip over those stages. It saves costs, and brings us cheaper furniture, in theory... although middlemen often like to cash in until the prices are almost as high as everything else, so frequently it makes little difference. Only the brand name matters nowadays in determining the price of things.

With cheaper goods and cost cutting in testing, research and development, come these kinds of risks. They don't happen frequently, but often enough for people to throw rows. How a product behaves during its life cycle can only be tested by examining it, which could take several years. No one has that kind of time in the business world, without fairly tough regulations in place to make sure everything is done 'properly'.

If you've got some spare time, read this:

But don't if you're easily triggered. If you're not easily triggered then go ahead.
