Plastic money being introduced in Canada - November 18th 2011, 04:25 AM

I just learned about this today.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/tech...icked-out.html

Thoughts?

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

Idk to be honest with you. The whole "window" concept seems strange to me...and I just overall don't care for it much really.

But then again I'm not a Canadian :P

There have been concept mockups for revamps of American currency, and I say nothing beats tradition.

Well, in Australia, we've had plastic banknotes for a couple of decades already. Personally, I don't understand paper money - it seems too easy to tear or counterfeit. And I don't understand having banknotes that are all the same colour either; that would be so confusing...

To be honest I assumed every western country has plastic money... paper seems impracticle considering it's so easy to break.

Same goes for the 'window' thing.

To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget

Paper money gets really dirty and torn as it is used over the years.

Innovative implies it's a new idea... from what I've heard, plastic banknotes have been around in a few other countries for a while now.

Have to admit I didn't realise other countries had already introduced plastic money - shows what I know. The Canadian version does look interesting, though, and if it helps cut down counterfeiting then I'm all for it. With things as bad as they are, the last thing we need is billions being siphoned off via fraudulent currency.

On a random aside, most "paper" money is actually printed on cotton to improve its durability.

This is really interesting. I'm assuming this means wallets will have to change, though? Not that that's a huge deal...just a thought. I'd guess this new plastic bill isn't going to be very er...bendy.
I hope it catches on in Canada and in the states, though. Seems like a good change to make

No, it's very bendy. It isn't hard plastic like a credit card or something. I've never had paper money to compare it to, so I don't really know how that folds, but plastic notes easily fit into normal wallets.

But it will stop millions of people from feeling disappointed to find a washed bank note in their trouser pockets, why would you want to take that away form people?

And fillin' with emotion he took a bite'

I saw my first plastic bill today at work! (Well, that's not quite right. My first plastic Canadian 100 dollar bill, to be exact.) My boss got so excited, she was showing all the customers in the store, it was hilarious.

Anyway, I'm for it. I hate it when my bills rip and of course I'm all for cutting down on counterfeiting.

Not only is plastic harder to counterfeit but having a 'window' makes it even harder.
