Pizza Is A Vegetable

The US Congress has now passed a measure in which pizza is now considered to be a vegetable:

This is very sad, all the progress to make school lunches healthier now going to waste.

Next week Turkey twizzlers and chocolate will be considered fruit.

Tomato paste is a fruit - so actually the producers and the people who called tomato paste a vegetable there making the pizza a vegetable are wrong, vegetables don't have seeds/pips. Fruit does have seeds and pips, so taking that into mind isn't pizza a fruit ?

Yeah I can see this catching on - 'Here kids , have some pizza it's one of your five a day'.

Not sure how impressed Jamie Oliver will be with this.

I was reading more into the pizza being a "vegetable" part...that was a really sad article to read. They want schools to 1/2 cup of sauce instead of 2 tablespoons. Why is congress wasting our time and money on declaring pizza a vegetable when it isn't too healthy (based on type and ingredients)?

I really don't care what's it's classified as. We pay tax dollars for school lunches, frozen pizza is cheap, fresh vegtables are not. Bring a lunch from home or eat what they provide. I see this as a victory.

Well to be honest, jaimie oliver is a complete ****. He basicly destroyed what was good about school dinners here in the uk.

I hope he gets his head caved in one day.

They may put tomato paste (Fruit, not vegetable) and toppings on pizza, but that's not making it healthy. For instance, when I was in middle school (I'm only a sophomore in high school, so it was only 2 years ago) the pizza had toppings, and of course, tomato paste, but it was so greasy that we had to take napkins to it and it was still too greasy. Pizza has so much grease and stuff, it's certainly healthy. Not. =/

Yes but that does not mean he'd be impressed america is considering pizza a vegetable and allowing it in schools when he thought american schools and school committees to ban pizza and other junk food due to it being unhealthy, naming it a vegetable still does not make it healthy, its still unhealthy. Lets name candy a vegetable too, maybe then candy will just become healthy..

The fact that frozen pizza is used is one of the reasons America had the biggest child obesity rate in the world.

I'd personally prefer to pay more taxes to help stop the obesity problem. The less crap we give to our children the healthier people will be in years to come. Health matters.

I'm all for making pizzas et al healthier, but reclassifying them as vegetables is hardly the answer. The stupidity of it all is that if the food companies lobbying for these changes simply tweaked how they cooked their products in the first place, this issue wouldn't have arisen. Then again, common sense hasn't been their strongest suit in the past...

I don't understand why people hate Jamie Oliver He hasn't done anything wrong. All he has tried to do is make people healthier I don't see how that's a bad thing. I don't think he deserves to be a celebrity but most celebrities don't.

Not having fries on the menu isn't the end of the world. Healthy eating makes you look better, feel better and (sometimes) live longer.

Mudkip: Again you are not strapped into a chair and force fed school lunches. You can just as easily pack one from home (And this is usually cheaper anyhow.) or suck it up and eat it. I know in most schools in Canada you have multiple choices for food anyway, Salads often end up going to waste. People have choices, who are we to limit the choices they can make, be it positive or negative?
