Japan Apologizes to Canadian POWs 70 Years Later -
December 9th 2011, 04:16 AM

This apology came 70 years later and to me, it's a political ploy to improve their image given the fact their economy took a massive hit. However, I'm confused as to why they did it and why would someone think Japan is so great they should do business with them or buy more merchandise from Japan? I think it's rather pointless seeing as how many of the veterans are dead and the ones who are alive cannot stimulate Japan's economy by buying many items made in Japan. I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Better late than never I say. It may well be a political ploy but it probably did the vets some good to have a direct apology in that way as opposed to a generic statement. As for why it's taken so long, it's probably because sadly it passed under the radar compared with other atrocities carried out in the Second World War. It's no excuse but at least it has now been corrected.
