LA is voting on it, supposedly this is supposed to "destroy the adult entertainment industry". Thats what we need, more regulations on life to make sure people are as safe as can be, and then some more.

Given there was a HIV scare not too long ago, I can't say I'm surprised by this and it's a sensible proposal. Whether it'll have the desired effect or not is debatable given the attitudes within the industry, but if it cuts down infection rates then I don't see why it's such a problem.

Porn is porn, and it doesn't really make a difference to the viewer whether someone has a condom on or not. If it's to help prevent the spread of STD's, then I don't see a problem with it.

I don't like this one bit. Sure it's porn, but it's still by technicality a sexual act, and I do not believe the government has the right to control sexual acts. However maybe a signifigant tax cut or something on films that use condoms?

I dunno, I mean cutting down on STDs/STIs is awesome, but leaving the government tell us what we can and cannot do during sex is a bit ominous.

I remember reading somewhere that porn stars HAD to get STD testing done at least every 6 months. I could be wrong, or thinking of something else entirely, but this is what I remember.

However, what does it matter if they use a condom or not? People are so worried about it, but what difference does it make? Why should the female in the movie be the one solely responsible for birth control? It's not fair. Both parties, whether they be in a movie or not, should both be responsible in terms of what they use to protect themselves. Watching porn where the guy wears a condom isn't going to make a difference to me.

But we aren't talking about sexual freedom at all. We are talking about the porn industry which is hardly different from any other industry/job, except that it involves sex. If you agree that the government has the right to enforce safety regulations in a workplace, then why is porn any different?

I don't think this is a bad idea. STIs can catch from just certain bacterias, and wearing a condom would really help stop that. I guess it should be more about personal choice, but at the same time, I think the guys should just wear it for hte safety of other people. I really have no idea why they wouldn't want to. Do they really want to catch something? They don't know these people. I don't know. Odd subject.

How on earth will they enforce it? I don't see how they could possibly enforce this. Are they going to send a government agent to every porno that is being filmed and have them inspect to make sure they put a condom on? Or would they have someone watch all the videos produced in LA (assuming they even could figure out which ones were) and then penalize the actors that don't wear condoms?

I'm all for it, the only problem is that I think it's completely impossible. It may be easy to regulate in big companies who hire porn stars on a steady basis, but not for, say, porn made on the cheap in motel rooms to sell to various websites. The fact it that if you're on a website like Redtube.com and not paying via credit card directly to watch a movie on it's website, you're not going to know whether the video was filmed in Russia or America, unless they start talking. Even if they do, it is basically impossible to tell what state they are in unless the explicitly tell you.

However I think in general big companies should get into the habit of using condoms in all their videos, and frankly if some people don't find it as sexy they will just have to deal, because the health of the actors should come before the arousal of the viewers.

I can understand why they might want to enforce this, but I also think you could get similar effects through enforcing regular STI checks, etc. Or perhaps, ensuring that everyone has the RIGHT to wear a condom and won't NOT get a job just because they want to wear protection. Hm. I'm not sure. I think it's nice that people are trying to look out for the health of others, I suppose.

I suppose it's a bit like seeing the strings when there's a flying object in a TV show. But at the same time, it's also like denying an actor the use of a stunt double so that they could potentially die while filming. I'd say the latter is more important. It is an acting industry, and if the powers that be are moral enough, they should be looking after their actors.

Bullshit laws that achieve fuck all. I got really pissed off earlier today when I went out to buy 4 packs of headache tablets, just to stock up. It turns out that it is illegal to sell more than 2 at a time. Now can anyone here name anything whatsoever even slightly constructive that this achieves?

I suppose to prevent suicide. But if someone wants to suicide they'l get 2 packs from one shop, and another 2 from another. Or even another 2 in the same shop, 10 minutes later at another till. So the porn stars will wear a condom on camera. Is this supposed to spread a message of some sort that everyone should wear condoms? How stupid. It won't work, not from this angle. Is it supposed to stop STDs spreading? Again... they wear a condom on camera, what about off camera? So... it won't stop the spread of STDs either.
