Racisim is in all races. Why should the colour of someone's skin matter ? They are still a person - they still have feelings. Racisim is everywhere, you either chose to notice it and do something about it, or you ignore it and let people get on with it.

CRUMBLED
the girl who always laughed
CRIED
the girl who never stopped trying finally
GAVE UP

' i can't do this anymore'

Re: "Its Hard to See Racism When You're White " - February 9th 2012, 04:52 PM

Just a little something I'd like to say.

When I was in kindergarten, I always had trouble making friends because I was very shy. I managed to make friends with a black girl named Ciera. I met her mom a week later when she was picking her daughter up from school. The next day, I came home crying, because Ciera told me her mom said she couldn't be my friend anymore because I was white. I was too young to understand what it meant. But she was the only friend I'd made, and I didn't understand why being white meant I wasn't allowed to play with her anymore.

And that my "brother from another mother" was racism.

I wouldn't consider "brother from another mother" or "sister from another mister" racist. It's just a term people use to refer to friends of a different race.

Re: "Its Hard to See Racism When You're White " - February 10th 2012, 08:39 PM

I had something more to say but seeing as how this thread is going it'd get picked apart and words put in my mouth.

All I'm going to say is yes, white people can have racism towards them, and it does happen. However if you feel so strongly about the racism against you, as a white majority (in most places) imagine the racism against the minority. I've had racism against me from both white and black people just because I'm mixed. I do believe it can be hard to see racism if you're white, you guys cry about everything. Oh I got excluded in school, oh I couldn't play with the black kids, boo fucking hoo.
I couldn't play with anybody, sit down on the school bus, have lunch, I was constantly searched because some people thought I was native, I didn't get my drivers licence until I found a non-racist instructer, in the oil field people thought I was a cleaner because they thought I was native again, there have been older people afraid to touch me or who think I'm a drunk.
I was arrested down the street of my own home because I didn't look like I belonged in the neighbourhood.

That's racism, all the time. Poor you, you couldn't play with the black kids.

Look, I was just giving an example saying that racism does happen to white people. Yes, what happened to you was horrible and I'm very sorry it happened to you, and yes, that's much worse than the racism I experienced, but the point I was trying to make was simply that racism happens to everyone, including whites. I'm not trying to say that what happened to me was a horrible horrible form of racism, I was just giving an example from an experience I had as a child.

Re: "Its Hard to See Racism When You're White " - February 11th 2012, 04:19 AM

Im not trying to belittle whatever you experienced but you guys butchered the point the ad was trying to get across. It said its hard for white people to understand and this is the reason why. As soon as anyone else says anything happens to their race white people are all over that shit saying it happens to them too and they have it worse. What the fuck? I mean really, an ad trying to raise awareness that racism still happens to other people and sometimes its people to see turned into a fucking cry for me thread full of mostly, you guessed it, white people.

When I was a kid I wanted to be white cause they had it easier, when I was a teen I wanted to be black for the same reason. Stop crying about yourselves and do what the ad is intended to do, look around. My god you guys.
the problem is you can't look past your own problems to help someone else. K maybe you do experience racism, but shouldn't that make you want to reach out and help someone more? Instead of crying for yourself on the internet? Shouldn't it make you look at the body of the ad instead of drilling the tittle and a couple sections?

When I see that ad, I see, "you white people are blind to our problems because you're privileged by virtue of your skin color.". It's prejudiced, and that's really all there is to it.

I don't know if it's necessary, but let me clarify.

I was trying to say that the incident you described was racism in my mind.

And I was callng you my "brother from another mother."

This is kind of unfair, I have never experienced racism first hand, but I know that is does happen.

I've had a group of asian kids sing casper the friendly ghost at me. Seriously. Just because you're white doens't mean you don't notice or suffer from discrimination. I feel it's views like this that make people apprehensive about being proud of their roots and culture, just because they are not part of a minority.

So here i am, alive at last
..and i'll savour every moment of this.

I have never experienced it somebody being racist to me, and I acknowledge that I could only imagine how that may feel like. We need to be able to admit when you are privileged so that you can fully help others who do not have that privileged.

Not even going to check this thread again. Honestly, it's not worth arguing about. I'm not particularly for this campaign, I don't know enough about it, but I think it's sending a powerful message for an issue that does need to be talked about.

Umm I don't really see how but I guess if that's so I'm priviledged since I'm Indian American as we are the richest Americans. I have seen white people who were very poor were they priviledged? I don't think so. Reno's barely got any black people in it annoyed me at times. But downtown the people are a lot panhandlers homeless alcoholics. It was really uncomfortable going into town like that. And guess what they were white and run down. There is no racial privilege in america any longer if it is then who is privileged? Because statistics there are many many races ahead of the white race.

As for seeing racism it exist but not enough to hurt anyone in success... I have had racism against me and my mom several times. But truly tbh it never was anything but really laughable by random nobodies. I am never hurt by racism it's a thing people want to hold onto. To me it's like a parent who's a dead child that they try to pretend is still alive. If it were white people would be on top but they aren't. Racism is dead but some want to revive it it's a desire not an action. The action never reaches who it's for and never will.
