Biodegradable Gum Hits Stores - March 30th 2009, 11:42 PM

Article

Quote:
(Newser) The first widely available biodegradable chewing gum hits British stores today. Chicza Rainforest Gum is manufactured in Mexico from the sap of the chicle tree collected by a cooperative network of chicleros, or gum farmers. Unlike regular gum, Chicza uses no petrochemicals, isn't sticky, and dries up and crumbles to nothingness in about six weeks after a good chew. A pack of lime or spearmint gum sells for $2 a pack.
I really want to try this. I wonder if it tastes like regular gum. If it dries up and crumbles, this could be a great thing to solve the problem of gum under school desks. If it dries up and falls off, at least it isn't still there.

Cool! One of my pet peeves is gum on the streets or on desks etc. at school. I mean, can't you just find a garbage can?! Anyway, with this, at least it'll crumble away in six weeks...I wonder what it's made of though... :S

$2? At that price it's never going to catch on. Considering you get good gum for 40p here most people wont be shelling out for more expensive gum just because it helps the environment sad to say.

However, I'd be very interested in trying it.

To be honest, I'd be willing to pay $2 for it. I don't chew gum often, but when I do, it sounds reasonable.

I wouldn't buy it because i'm stingy with my money and would rather pay less for non biodegradable gum.

I'd buy it. And isn't 5 gum like close to $3 a pack? And that's about all I chew. I like this idea, and once people start buying it, the price will most likely drop.

That's great! If they sell it in Canada I'll totally buy it.

Yeah, 5 gum is expensive, but it's become very popular already, so price may not be a huge issue.

I'd try it just to see what it was like.
