Conversion to Buddhism - February 5th 2013, 11:58 PM

Due to the fact that I study religion in school I know a lot about Buddhism. Recently though I have thought about conversion to Buddhism. The practices are more important to me than the beliefs though. I don't believe in a God, so Buddhism is probably one of the few religions that could ever appeal to me. But that being said I don't think that I believe in reincarnation either. But a lot of other aspects of Buddhism are very appealing to me.
That being said, the transition from academic Buddhism to lived Buddhism is a bit confusing to me: I don't know where to find relevant texts to learn more about it or anything like that.
Any suggestions?

What type of Buddhism were you looking into?

I'm not to picky, Pure Land, Shinshu or Zen? But I can work with some sort of non-denominational thing for starters

You don't have to be completely specific about following all the 'rules' in a religion/spirituality to count as believing in that religion/spirituality. I once had a friend who called herself a Hindu, but didn't believe in God. If you believe in Buddhism, you are a Buddhist.

Also, if you have lots of questions about Buddhism, if I were you I'd try and find a local Buddhist temple and see if you can talk to a monk. I've met some before and they were lovely and open and totally willing to help and explain things.

I'm perfectly normal; it's the rest of the world that's insane.
