Holiday Season is Upon Us - November 27th 2015, 09:25 PM

In America, Thanksgiving has ended, which for most of us, marks the beginning of the Holiday Season. Hanukkah starts in about a week, and Christmas in less than a month. I'm sure with various people celebrating different holidays and occasions throughout the month of December.

What are your plans this Holiday Season? What do you celebrate?

I celebrate Christmas. I'm not particularly religious, but my family is. My girlfriend and I are headed up north, to Seattle, to visit my family. My mom, stepdad, half-sister, and grandparents will all be there. I'm very excited to see them. We don't have too many plans, but we will be seeing Star Wars

Hope everyone has a blessed holiday, whatever you do!

I stopped celebrating Christmas after 2004. In 2005 I lost my home and there was nothing to celebrate about. I had a couple of decent Christmases in 2010 and 2011, but other than that I don't celebrate it anymore.

My immediate family is nonreligious, but my family as a whole is a mixture of Catholic, Methodist, and a few Mormons. So we celebrate Christmas, but we never go to a church service or anything. I must say I love nativity scenes though. My Mormon neighbors gave my family this beautiful small glass one for the dinner table and I've always wanted one like it for my future home.

My family isn't religious but we celebrate Christmas too. I'll also be visiting my parents in Seattle! Small world. I'm so excited though, the holiday season is my favorite time of the year.

Christmas is my favorite holiday as it was the happiest times of my childhood. I know the majority of my family doesn't go to any services, but some do. I don't because my HP isn't any religion in particular, but I do recognize Jesus' birth and such at Christmas (even though he was born in the spring). I usually spend Christmas with family on Christmas Eve. Christmas day is just when I chill with my mom and such.

I grew up in a Catholic Church and as I started getting older and thinking about my faith. I switched to just Christianity. So I celebrate Christmas! We have Christmas at my house in the morning then we drive to Maryland and have Christmas with my grandparents there. We try to make it to Church in the morning but normally don't make it lol Anways, It's my favorite holiday! I am the happiest around Christmas. And knowing the New Year is right around the corner helps too. It's a fresh start! I hope you have a great Christmas!!

One side of my family celebrates hanukkah, the other side Christmas. I grew up with both but more Hanukkah and will always have a place for that holiday although I don't have anyone to celebrate it with as I've lost my community. Or rather they shunned me.

Re: Holiday Season is Upon Us - December 1st 2015, 04:45 AM

I wish Christmas was more like Thanksgiving; nobody going overboard to buy stuff and show their love through material items, but by being with each other and maybe having a small gift exchange. I hate the hypocrisy of all those damn commercials saying, "Show your loved one you love them this holiday by giving us a small thousand dollars for this necklace."
I say that, but my favorite holiday is Christmas and its simply because of the new video games waiting under a tree. One time my parents got me a Nintendo Wii simply to cope with my depression (and it worked). They never would've bought it otherwise.
What can I say? I can be bought too.

My family isn't really religious. I mean, my mum used to go to Church and she used to take us with her when we were little, but life got in the way. We loved celebrating Advent and though my mum doesn't have time to go to Church anymore, she does watch Advent being celebrated on Songs of Praise (if anyone is familiar with that ) I would love to go to Midnight Mass though. We have a mixture of Christmas decorations too- we have santas and snowmen.....and then angels and a nativity We don't do anything in particular to celebrate other than open presents from each other and have nice food

I am probably just going to put up the tree at some point this month, watch Christmas movies, and then celebrate with food and presents with my parents, sister, brother in law, and niece.

We put the tree up already, and we're going to watch Christmas movies all throughout the month.

I've never seen the Star Wars. I keep meaning to watch. I most likely will pick a Christmas movie or a random fun comedy or something.

Well now, the only showing is Star Wars... go figure

Blasphemy. (On a side note, I accidentally editted your post initially instead of quoting it, sorry)

It's okay.

So, I am thinking of getting a Christmas decoration for each of the 25 days till Christmas to decorate my apartment. I may go to the dollar store and find a few things there. Kinda like the calendar chocolates this would be more of decorations. I may do this every year.I kinda want to have a display of small little figurines.

My family aren't religious but still celebrate Christmas, and I'll be back at home this year with them. I hold to Christian belief and as such will likely head to a few carol services and maybe even an early morning Christmas Day service. We'll see.

My family aren't religious but we celebrate Christmas and I particularly enjoy Christmas- sometimes I prefer it over my birthday because I have to wait until the end of January for bigger birthday presents. Anyways, this year has been the first year where I've been responsible and mostly bought presents for others with my own wages from my temporary Christmas job! ^^
I've got a few more things to buy but they won't be much of a hassle.

I'm lowkey waiting for Love Actually to appear on TV because I want to watch it all the way through, I've always seen the same parts when it's been on previously.

I never had much in the way of organized family events, so as soon as I was old enough to make my own decisions I've been celebrating the winter (and summer) solstice, because that's what I believe in celebrating.

I've never been religious or given much thought to various religious celebrations. That being said, I'm completely supportive and happy to entertain any well wishes or traditions I find myself faced with!

Re: Holiday Season is Upon Us - December 15th 2015, 03:58 AM

I celebrate Hanukkah. I always feel a little left out of the fun around this time because I don't know anyone else who doesn't celebrate Christmas. I enjoy Hanukkah with my family. Lighting candles and eating latkes, Unfortunately this year I'm still away at school for all of Hanukkah so I don't get to enjoy it with my family. Did a little school celebration with some other Jewish kids though.

Whatever it is, chances are I've been there.
If I can make it out, you can too.
