So I don't really believe in a God. Or didn't, idk. I did believe that there was a better place out there once you died, and that everything happens for a reason... I think this is the right forum... Not sure. I need some opinions.
So yesterday I was crying and finally after an hour I just said... Out loud, "fuck it, if no one wants to help me I'm done." Today wake up and I have been really happy. I've always wish I would just die, but not today. I was driving home when a guy came into my lane, I saw it but I froze, the guy in front of my slammed on his brakes and did a donut or two, I then slammed on mine. No one was hurt. The guy in my lane and I pulled over to the side of the road to make sure each other was alright (I never met this guy before) the driver who came towards us drove away. None of us were hurt and there was no scratches on the vehicles. I was trying to pass this person in front of me for like ten minutes. He said we don't need to call the cops since we really didn't see the car/person. Also, neither of us was hurt. But before I left he said, thank God nothing happened.... Remember I still am not sure if I believe in a God or not but... If he is real, is he trying to help me? I'm so confused on my beliefs right now. I want all opinions! Whether you believe or not. Thanks! |

Many people I've seen posts from online at various forums have mentioned situations when they decided to believe in god afterward as the only means to explain it. I think it's great you found a kind driver, which can perhaps help the issue you posted in the General forum area, however, I think it's ridiculous to believe in god as a result of this situation since it suggests the moment there's a negative situation, you'll reject god. I also think it's ridiculous because you could believe in any deity/deities as a result of the situation yet you decide to cling to a particular god, so what made you choose that particular god over others?

I'm having difficulty with this one since I'm not a believer, but- when you said, "if no one wants to help me then I'm done"... were you referring to God? Because God didn't help you out when you were feeling down, you're done with God? Or, conversely, you didn't get into a car accident and that was God?
I could really use some clarification here. |

Wait, you want to have the thread closed because you asked for opinions, got some and were questioned since you were unclear? I feel like I'm missing something here. Is it because you feel you're being challenged when the previous posts questioned and gave opinions?

No, I got pissed because I replied three times from my iPad and it was fairly long and it didn't post all three times. I thought for a brief moment that my childhood views on God were coming back. I was raised as a catholic, when the guy said thank God, it made me think the rest of the ways home. I stopped believing a few years ago because the whole God concept I didn't understand. I tried to pray for many things and got the opposite, my life is hell. Yesterday was a good day but about an hour after I posted this I came to the conclusion that I didn't change my beliefs and I regretted posting such a stupid thread. I have prayed to my great grandmother and I'm not sure if it is considered praying but it helps me "take a load off my shoulders." Does any of this make sense? I hope so. I am pretty sure I don't believe in God but honestly I have been confused on what to believe for the past year or two, I'm not sure if this is a phase or not. Also, I didn't believe that God was real when the guy mentioned it just because HE said it, it just made me remember my old beliefs and I got confused about my old and current beliefs.

Anyway, for the OP: I think it's good that experiences like that one (where thankfully no one came to harm) have led to you thinking about this topic more. However, the honest answer is no one can tell you one way or another whether that was God trying to help you, because we don't know and have no way of knowing. I believe in God and I've personally had experiences where I felt someone or something was definitely looking out for me (brake failure on a race track being the most prominent example), but if someone asked me to prove beyond reasonable doubt that God definitely helped me on that day I have no chance. All I can draw upon is the fact that I should have ended up a mangled mess in a tyre barrier and yet somehow didn't. At the same time, I wouldn't want my views to be taken as gospel on the subject (or any subject for that matter), and so the best thing I can suggest is if you're having these questions then do some research. Read books on religion, look up interviews where people have had similar experiences, and most of all keep an open mind and go with what feels right for you. If you're looking for a definitive "was it God or not?" answer, though, I'm afraid there isn't one. Sorry if that's not much help but honesty is the best policy with this one. Suffice it to say, if you have questions feel free to PM or VM.

Me being religious... I don't believe in God as a set thing like I don't believe in him as a spirit up somewhere but rather than in good people
Anyway from the prospect of believing in God after 1 good thing happening being ridiculous. I think its silly you'd say that. When something bad happens, something is always blamed on God by those who don't believe in him for the most part that is. I dunno I find it funny how as soon as someone says oh I believe there is a God because something good has happened the person is ridiculed, but when something bad happens some reference is made to God. To me God is just a reference point in people's lives and some take that point deeper than others |

I don't know if I believe or not... Hence me saying I am confused on my beliefs. But it was really close with the cars, that's why I thought it was "God" but once again I said I regret making this post. I am about to fucking flip next time someone calls me ridiculous! I didn't post this so people could say how fucked up I am, I already know this. I don't blame god for bad things, I blame my self. All it did was open up curiosity towards a god. Damn! I'm through with this, once again delete this, or close it or whatever the fuck it's called. Kay? If I want it close maybe that means I don't want anymore answers? Take the hints...

As a Christian I believe God can use moments like this to get someone's attention. Prayers can help take a load off your shoulders for sure. If you want to talk more about this is PM me.
