Witches - October 8th 2011, 07:47 PM

so I am a witch, no not 'charmed' stuff, but like wiccan witch, although i am not wiccan, but that is the best i can describe it, either way, i get called a liar, laughed at, get told Harry Potter got into my head, stuff like that, I became a witch from studying wicca, i was a seeker for awhile, never dedicated myself cause i just found it hard to believe in any type of god or goddess, anyway, the question is, do you believe that someone can be a witch? and if so, why do people laugh at me, i mean i understand why, but it never made sense, i mean, to each their own thing, right?

My views are kinda mixed on this. I have nothing against people who are Wiccan, but I'm not sure about them being actual witches. I love the idea of people being able to cast magic & stuff, but I don't think it's something I truly believe in. I used to believe in that stuff as a kid, but I think it was more of me playing a game rather than thinking of it as a religion or such. That is my personal belief though. Not everyone is going to agree with me, just as not everyone will agree with you.

I think it's wrong to make fun of you for that, but given your age (I'm assuming you're in junior high or high school?), it doesn't surprise me. There are less Wiccans than most religions, therefore people don't understand it, much less accept it. If this is truly something you believe in, I say stick with it. Maybe instead of calling yourself a witch, you can say you are a Wiccan. It gives more background behind your reasoning & if people ask what that is, then you could go into detail. It really is up to you though. I know teens can be cruel.

I am a witch. I believe if you feel you're a witch after being a part of the Craft long enough to understand what it's about, accept it, and live it, you're a witch. There are some who do dedications in order to call themselves a witch, but there are also some who practice as a Solitary, and do not do a dedication but still call themselves a witch.

It is definitely something I think all practitioners deal with: bullying. When most people say witch, people think wicked witch of the west, flying on broomsticks, with a wart on their nose. What they don't understand is the Craft and what its all about. Honestly, yes, I do get a little ticked that people don't do their own research about it and follow along with what people tell them witchcraft/Wicca is. But in the end, it's their loss of knowledge that lead them to that judgement. And if they know about the craft, they're just plain mean and disrespectful which is wrong.

Being a witch is a title I wear proudly. I understand that people don't know about it, but it's for them to learn and I'm not going to push my religion off on them. I'll answer questions and help them if they want, but I don't make the first move. I am a teacher in my town, teaching Witchcraft 101, tarot, healing, and others.

I'll be around if you need anything

I am open minded, spiritual in some ways, and accepting of whatever the hell anyone wants to believe in. As such, I tend to not post in these threads. But.

I do need to ask what "spells" are. And how you can have any proof of them actually "working". As far as I'm aware, "spells" just seem to be another form of "prayer" but in a different religion. I've seen plenty of Wiccan books, spellbooks, and all the rest of it, but what do these "spells" actually do?

As Jen said, it's the stereotype that gets most people. When you say 'witch', people associate it with words like 'evil' or 'insane' or, well, 'wicked'. They think of witches they've seen on TV or in movies, so they come up with things lik Harry Potter, Charmed, Sabrina, Bewitched - none of which really portray the sort of magic(k) that actual witches believe.

Personally, I've never understood why people can accept prayer so easily, yet magic seems far-fetched. Really, what's the difference? (I mean, I know there's a difference, but I don't see how one's more believable than the other.) I wish people would do some research before throwing around insulting words. Obviously, I believe people can be witches, and cast spells - just as people can believe in a deity and pray to them.

My advice is, don't let them get to you. You know what you believe, there's nothing wrong with it, and if they can't be bothered to take the time to try and understand, they're not worth your time.

Take care.

Nothing in the world is
the way it ought to be.
It's harsh, and cruel.

But that's why there's us - champions.
Doesn't matter where we come from,
what we've done or suffered,
or even if we make a difference.

We live as though the
world is as it should be,
to show it what it can be.

spells are more bending energy to do your will, basicly praying to yourself as tho you are god, so instead of god doing it, you do it, i guess, i cant really explain it quite, and spells in wicca are all good, now witches who dont live by a code, well....thats another story, like me, but magick is not a color, the witch decides how the spell is used,
