A Christian Poem a Day -
November 12th 2011, 01:42 AM
I know there is a self-expression thread, but I wish this to remain here.
I will be doing this for one year. In this time, I encourage others to leave comments, or post their own poems. Even if they are feeling agnostic towards the Christian God. However, I wish to refrain people from posting hateful things towards God. Thanks. I will start with two that I've written since starting this project: Listen to Me Listen to the teacher.I am not. "There are no teachers," says One."But, there is One teacher," says the same. What do you do if that One hates you? What can you do? Listen. Home Naked -- I came. Lusting -- I saw. Greedily -- I conquered. Clothed -- I died. I conquered nothing. Something conquered me. Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

I looked in the mirror, and said: "Mirror, mirror, you contain the law, who's the most righteous sheep of all?" My reflection shone back. I left to do my Lord's work. When I returned, I looked more intently. I saw something else looking back at me. It mimicked my every move. "Who are you?" I asked. The goat and I locked eyes. Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

See, know evil. Hear, know evil.
Lord, You came that the blind may see, the deaf may hear. Lord, may I always see, may I always hear, never. Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

After a minor misunderstanding, the thread is now re-opened. I wish to re-emphasize something, not by request of a mod, but to clarify. I wish this thread to become a discussion where others post as well. I would love to hear other Christian poetry, even if they are agnostic/questioning toward God. Anyways, a new poem:
Dear Reprobate, Heaven is your hell I knocked on the gold door to enter Heaven, the heat of Light scorched my hands burned my flesh and blinded my eyes. The sound of thunder roared like a lion shattered my ears burst my flesh I tried the doorbell. The door opened. I left Heaven to enter Hell. Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

My poem, illustrating my difficulties in picturing myself as a faithful mother:
God, when I picture myself as a faithful adult, and imagine I’m holding my little girl in tired but happy arms, I cannot help but think, “God, how am I to tell this little girl, my innocent child That she was born full of sin? How will I tell her that someday a man will rule over her? Shall I name her after Michol, whose dowry was 200 foreskins? Or Sarai, who had her husband impregnate Hagar? Leah, a sister wife of Rachel, who shared her husband with two handmaids? Or else Eve, who was tricked by a snake with legs, and condemned my darling daughter to bleed every month and to bear the burden of childbirth? How can I raise my daughter to speak up, when Timothy told her to stay silent?” How can You ask it of me? How can I obey? No offense meant, these are my true thoughts. |

I like it.
I don't take offense to it. I believe that the Bible is clear, none of us love God, nor can anyone obey Him. It was for this Christ died -- to enable us through faith, by grace, to be obedient. However, I find nothing wrong in stating your struggles or how you feel. In fact, I find it healing. James, John, and Christ said to bring these things to the light and you will receive healing. I wrote one about how I don't believe I love God, but in fact, hate Him. I'll do some editing and post it tomorrow. Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

I don't know if this is a poem more than a collection of feelings in me currently, but I tried:
Golden Calf My heart used to ache longing for more. I thought You cured it with a longing for Your return. But then it ached over what I've done ceaselessly: Crucify You, again and again. And now? Now my heart is cured by my being numb to you. Or is it You who is numb to me? I call You every morning, noon, and night. I haven't heard back in a very long time. I remember playing phone tag. It has turned to hide-and-seek. But, now, I wonder if You're even alive, or else found a spot I'll never find. Like on the other side of home safe. This numbness won't leave. I remember You said people forget how to love as the end draws near. Christ, I haven't forgotten. I love the You I've made You to be: created in my own image. Maybe this is why you won't respond. You're nothing but a golden calf. Please send my calf Send Moses down from Sinai and stop that noisy thunder. Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

Forgiven?
Soften this rock of a heart. Crush it to dirt, spit in it to make clay, and cure my blindness with it. My heart is dark Your deeds are unknown. I have forgotten of Your righteousness. I cannot rise to to praise Your name because I'm in my grave, the only thing the wicked love. Will You work wonders for one like me? Do You weep because I am dead? Your loving-kindness was proclaimed in my grave. I hear You're faithful, but will You put me to shame? Or will You be gracious and command me come forth rise walk? I am an ashamed doublemindedthiefadultererandmurderer. One full of pride, everything You hate. Will You still make me a coat of skin to hide my shame? I do not fear You. I have no hope. How far is the east from the west? I'm pretty sure they meet. Job, was your hope as small as mine? Because for me, there is no tree. Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

Me
I've heard it said, "I do not exist, only You exist." But in my world, only I exist. And while I may be here today, and gone tomorrow, You told me not to worry about tomorrow. Besides if a flower will wither tomorrow, even today it is dressed in glory. How much more can I? Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

The Broken Chain
We little knew that morning that God Was going to call your name.I n life we loved you dearly, In death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, You did not go alone; For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, Your love is still our guide; And though we can not see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same; But as God calls us one by one, The Chain will link again. I saw this at a Christian friend's house, engraved on a rock. He lost his sister and I thought it would be nice to share. - Justin ![]() |

The Dead and the Living One
Why do people say, "He died for me, so, I will live forHim." Do they not realize: though He died, He lives for them? Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |

Hey, I think this is a wonderful idea of a thread.
I'm not Christian or Catholic but have recently been very inspired by Christian monasticism in its various forms, and have been thinking about writing a poem or two to express that. I'm not too sure at the moment, but yeah, great to see that a thread like this is here. Certainly wonderful to read everyone's poetry. Please keep posting!

Thankful for Oppression
We thank the LORD, for our wealth. We have this wealth by abusing the poor. Our thankfulness for wealth is like cursing the LORD. Our comfort is not better than the pain of the poor. It is a curse. Their suffering is the grace of G-D. Is your G-D really G-D?
Is my G-D really G-D? I think our G-D isn't G-D, if He fits inside our head. |
