Need some help for any fellow atheists, humanists, and agnostics. - November 15th 2011, 09:12 PM

Help FROM fellow said people. From, not for!!! Well, I guess help for me.

This Wednesday, a group at my school (Atheists, Humanists, and Agnostics) will be having a general information tabling in a busy part of campus about AHA(the group) to try and recruit new members as well as inform believers and non believers alike about who we are and what it means to be an atheist, agnostic, or humanist. If anyone has any ideas about a creative attention grabber for the dry erase board, let me know. They tend to attract the most attention and are usually beneficial. Keep in mind we want to engage people without offending.
Any ideas before tomorrow around 10am (New Orleans time) would be great!

What I would use is examples of religion leading to negativity, be it cruesades, suicide attacks, hate crimes, intolerance, etc.

I'm religious, but things like that always stand out to me as a reasonable reason someone would choose to be Atheist, humanist, agnostic, etc.

See, I wouldn't recommend using them as an attention grabber for two reasons; one, it's pretty much expected and so plays to stereotypes and two, it demonstrates intolerance of its own in pigeon-holing religion in this manner. Atrocities can be committed by people of all creeds and none, after all.

I realise it's a bit late now being Friday (apologies), but if you have an event like this in future I'd probably try something emphasising the humanism side of things - perhaps play on "All About Us" or "Being Human" or something. You want it to be fairly catchy while giving people the right impression. Alternatively, the "Happy Human" emblem may be a good starting point and you could also use that as your slogan. Other than that, if you contact the AHA directly they may have some materials they can provide for your display.

I'm not any of the above but hopefully some of that helps.
