Why do some people obsess over mocking Christianity?

Some people just become so obsessed with disproving Christianity, and making fun of it. I see people all the time with pictures that are making fun of Jesus.
Or a guy I know goes around the Christian facebook groups trolling and trying to disprove Christianity and daily says on there, and in his every day life "HAIL SATAN". He does this just to make Christians mad, he says so himself.

I see whole blogs, websites, youtube channels etc completely dedicated to making fun of God and Christians, or doing everything in their might to disprove Christianity.

What is it that stirs this up so badly? Why do they obsess over it and try so hard? I don't see what good it does for anyone at all. =/

Please no ignorant or stupid answers, I'm seriously curious as to why some people go out of their way to piss believers off.

This may sound harsh but I don't intend it to be: If you have a problem with it, don't read it and ignore them. People have the right to say whatever they want.

side note: Christians are guilty of the same exact thing you're saying, and have been doing it for FAR longer than Atheists.

Also, when have Christians been known for insulting and/or making fun of other religions? I've seen trying to convert, and a few extremist churches being extremely rude, but not what I'm talking about here.

Christians (well, Christians who are doing what the bible says to) don't do that. We say other beliefs are wrong, yes, but we don't mock them and try to make them angry. But back to what the OP said, I've been wondering this too. It's one thing if they don't believe in God, but many of them are so angry at the whole God thing and say that they hate it so much, that I have to wonder if the reason they don't believe in God is simply because they don't want to. In which case, I would say: truth is truth even if you choose to ignore it.

I absolutely hate it when Christians go around telling me I'm wrong, telling me I'm going to go to hell and that I need saving. I fed up with forever seeing pictures of Jesus offering to help me. I get really annoyed with Christians telling me that science is wrong, and gosh don't get me started on those that like to knock on my doors.

Not everyone believes what they do.

If they didn't always act like they were superior, feeling sorry for everyone and trying to 'save' them, as if they NEEDED help, then they wouldn't have to deal with all the hate. It justifyable, 'nuff said.

You change your question around by asking why do some Christians go around and mock atheism or other beliefs. The simple answer is in each group there are a bunch of assholes, if you think Christians are somehow excluded, then you're deluded beyond belief. Part of the issue probably stems from the creationist vs evolution debate, which isn't something I care to get into as I see it as fairly wasted effort. Although evolution is not a mandatory acceptance for atheism, it is fairly common and mocking evolution tends to make the Christian look like a fool in the eyes of those atheists. I've been on a forum where such a debate takes place and it is a very mature crowd but you still see some mockery. That mockery eventually transcends into mocking the entire belief. Alternatively, some people just find religion altogether to be a joke and Christianity is a huge joke in that view.

I cannot speak for everyone but I know that much of the atheist community on youtube were raised Christian and "escaped" from it at various ages. One of the reasons they vlog about their (negative) experiences with Christianity so that others who are unhappy or questioning their religion might "see the light" (so to speak). The same goes for many of the blogs out there.

Frankly, people probably poke fun at it because it's got some great material. Unicorns? Giants? A dowry of 200 foreskins? Immaculate conception? (Have you seen that one billboard: God was a tough act to follow) It's freaking hilarious, and it's even more hilarious (though many, including myself, would say it's also sad) that people believe this sort of thing.

I'm not trying to be offensive but you asked so I told. I don't think I'm obsessed, nor do I think anyone here on TH is obsessed. Try not to take those bashers so seriously. They like a good joke, you like your good book.

Because the Christians seem very hypocritical with their ways of being, we accept all but damn all none believers to a pit where they suffer eternally, that makes no sense, how the fuck does that "Accept all"? And they claim to love you for who you are as long as you conform to their belief and accept a dead visionary on a stick as your personal savior. Plus the bible has been scrapped re-written and changed so much its BS now. Then their is always Satans influence on the matter, no matter how many times you go to church Satan will always be with you, hes god of the earth and you are of the earth and you sin, many christians act like because they go to church they are all high and mighty (trust me I live in a catholic/christian ruled community T.T) thus they fulfill the sin of Pride. So as I said before, they have to be the most hypocritical bastards to walk the earth.

Witchcraft. We don't worship the devil. We don't sign a blood contract and eat babies. We're normal people, (not all bad) with different beliefs. There are people that give us a bad name, but thats not the majority.

I think people attack Christians because people get tired of the preaching from some, & just don't like it and don't know what else to do.

Muslims. Not all Muslims fly planes into buildings, but Christians are awful rude towards all of them. As well as homosexuals. Even though it isn't a religion, Christians are obsessive homophobics.

It's not so much Christianity people have a problem with, as it is the Church and various hardcore Christians. Any sane person knows all Christians aren't homophobic conservatives trying to convert you, and all Muslims aren't terrorists who cut off women's clits. I'd like to say it's only because a few bad religious apples spoil the whole bunch, but the fact is that humans are really obnoxious to how other people live their lives, even if it's not affecting them what so ever.

Just don't take it so personal. Hell, look at Mormons. They get bashed to shit for their religion, and they haven't exactly been 'oppressing' the world. Not only are they some of the nicest people, they can accept it and laugh about themselves when someone makes a joke.

I actually agree, and I'm surprised someone was so honest. It is hilarious, and it's something to make fun of someone for. But then making fun of someones weight, or their intelligence, or the way they dress, or the way they act should be acceptable as well, shouldn't it? Except you do any of those things and you're a bully. I honestly don't understand it, if someone wants to explain.

People need to get over themselves, not all Christians are homophobic bitches and not all Muslims fly in to buildings and the majority of people, including Christians because shockingly we're people too, know that. I'm simply asking to set stereotypes aside so I could ask one simple question, why do atheists do that. If you want to turn it around and ask why are Christians always pushing God in someones face, it's because frankly they're called to go and tell and some are just obnoxious. There is a motive behind it however. I just wanted to understand the motive behind Atheists dedicating so much time to teasing Christians. That's it.

This, is why I have decided not to pursue religious studies as I once wanted to. It's too much for me. I couldn't even ask one question without getting several replies hardly relevant to the purpose of the question- the motivation behind the mockery.

As Maeve said, Christians are easy targets. Catholics get it even worse you know with all of the child molesting priest jokes. All religions get made fun of. Look at Jeff Dunham and his Achmed the dead terrorist act. He makes fun of three religions in one act, and the audience eats it up. It's funny because it's a stereotype and anyone with a brain knows it's a stereotype and doesn't take it seriously. Let's face it religion is funny, well religious extremists are funny. Try not to take it so personally. Really most of the people making the jokes mean no harm. It's like a blond joke.
