Lifehouse - Everything Skit. - January 16th 2012, 03:39 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

This skit could be triggering to some people, depending on how easily you get triggered. But, I felt the need to share it with you guys. The student ministry team at my church performed this skit and I fell in love with it. The video link I'm putting is the skit done by the original actors. Enjoy!

It's funny. With all the weird imagery going on in this video (dancing with the man in a dress, to start with), what really bothered me was the fact that greed was portrayed by a black boy in a thug costume, all the way down to the gold chain on his neck.

Seriously? I didn't even notice that, to be completely honest. I was way more focused on the imagery than on the people portraying the different sins! Sorry if that was offensive to you!

I didn't notice that either. As for the guy in the "dress", it represents Jesus. If you look at any paintings or such from that time, that's basically what they wore.

Anyway, I have seen this video soo many times & I still love it. Makes me cry every time.

Seriously!! I haven't been in the best state mentally or spiritually for a while now. When the team in my youth group did this skit, I broke. It was awful because I was crying in public, but it was awesome because it moved me so much.

Haha yeah me neither. I've had some problems with my church & I wasn't even raised Christian, so my views are a bit mixed right now. But even when my faith was strong, it always made me cry.

Re: Lifehouse - Everything Skit. - January 16th 2012, 03:24 PM

I apologize for my above post, I should have given this more thought. I've done that now. Let me first say to the OP that I understand that this is a skit which you did not write yourself and have no obligation to defend. Without further ado:

1. The girl begins with a personal relationship with God/Jesus, shown by her dancing with him, and drinking from his hands.

There are two problems with this. a) I have no personal relationship with God, so right off the bat I'm alienated in this skit, and b) She starts off in the black shirt. If she was saved to begin with, and her re-saving was shown with the switch to the white shirt, shouldn't she start in a white shirt? This seems to imply she wasn't saved to begin with.

2. Lust gets to her. There are a few issues here too.

Why should having a boyfriend take her away from God? Or is he supposed to imply that she has had many boyfriends? Why is he male? Wouldn't it be more interesting if she was led astray by a lesbian? (Nothing against homosexuality or churches that support it, it just seems like a weird style choice for a skit that all preaches against bulimia and alcohol) Why is he wearing black like her? Wouldn't red make more sense?

3. Then Greed, as represented with a hat, baggy clothes, and a one of those gold necklace things.

I already pointed out how stereotypical this is.

4. Then... I have no good name for this... K$sha.

Ok, I get that underage drinking (especially binge drinking) is bad. But why is she wearing white? If white later represents salvation?

5. Then... um... Vanity?

So... it's vain to be bullied by girls that are prettier than you, it's vain to develop bulimia? Newsflash, you can't take the God pill and cure bulimia. It's a disorder that takes time to work through, not just prayer.

6. Death. Who hands her a knife and a gun.

The girl struggles, then she puts both down. That's her. That's all her. She decided that. She lunges away from the "sins". One could say she's trying to get back towards God, but I prefer to think she's finally working against the sins. On her own.

7. The Struggle. The girl is battered by everyone. God stands back and makes rope-pulling gestures, until her shirt is torn off, showing white. Only then does God step in and "holds them back", giving himself all the credit.

I love this skit. A friend showed it to me right after I started going to my church.

I love lifehouse and this song. I like the video 'Katrina' is in

ReluctantPegasister, I never looked that far into it before, I just liked the meaning (that you are never too far gone). You're right about the beginning; I don't know why she's wearing black if she's already saved. I don't understand that either now that you mention it. With the boyfriend part though, I don't think it's trying to say that having a boyfriend is bad. I think it's trying to say that she was focusing all on her boyfriend and not enough on God instead of properly ballancing them. Either that, or maybe she was dating someone who wasn't a Christian. And I had an eating disorder in the past, so I understand what you're saying about the fact that it's a real disease and not just a quick choice...but I think the point was SUPPOSED to be that she let the pressure of the world get to her instead of standing up to it.

Even me being not religious, this video still hit me. Hard.

Yeah, I don't think that the video is quite a representation of the seven deadly sons. It just shows that the girl is being taken over by the world. I understand that eating disorders are huge struggles for a lot of people. One of my best friends had one. For me, that's just about the way you choose to overcome it.

Wait, the user Katrina is on a video for this skit?! I wanna see!!!! Lol.

She wasn't saved. Although Jesus sacraficed his life for us, it is our choice of whether we want to be saved or not (letting Jesus into our hearts). THAT is why she wearing black. Everyone is BORN with sin. But accepting Jesus means those sins are forgiven.

It is actually very understanding that a boyfriend would take her away from God. According to the Bible, people should wait until marriage for sex or at least have sex with people they love. Dating doesn't always imply love at our age, but a lot of lust. And it is possible that the boyfriend led her astray, although they didn't go into this since there were other people who did to this girl. As for the black, it's possible they were just showing darkness & seductiveness. Red wouldn't be fitting for a guy, but a girl.

As for the stereotypes, yes, they may be going overboard with that. But that's because it's a short skit & they can't go through & explain what each person represents. They went with what was familiar. I mean, you're really over-analyzing this skit. Movies use stereotypes & such all the time, but people aren't bashing those.

Again, probably not thinking of the clothes. People aren't paying attention to the clothes they're wearing, but their ACTIONS. The actions are enough representation. On the other hand, people don't pay attention to the main girl's clothes until the end of the skit anyways.

This isn't saying that she got better through a prayer. It shows how influenced she is by the outside world even though God is right there still loving her. For all you know, she goes to get treatment after realizing her love for God.

You're right, she DID decide that. God leaves it up to US to decide for ourselves. That's why he doesn't make us automatically pick Christianity as a religion or have faith right away. He gave us FREE WILL.

Again, God gave us FREE WILL. He is always there waiting for us when we're ready (if we ever choose to) have faith in him, but he will not force it on us.

Good message, but it's so melodramatic. Just my opinion.
