How God Favors Evil - March 28th 2012, 04:57 AM

The content of this video could be triggering (violence and mention of rape).

The title of this video is How God Favors Evil http://youtu.be/Z1BzP1wr234

I'm curious of your opinions on the video. It is a bit long (9 minutes), but I personally found it interesting. And it has cartoons!

I'll share my own opinions in a bit. I don't want to color the responses.

I don't have the opportunity to watch it now unfortunately. I've watched a few of his videos before however, so I'll still say a few things.

Under the assumption that god (the Christian one) does exist then god can't prefer evil over good because he is what good is.

Since god is omniscient then he knows what's best for us in the long run. It may seem that god is a dick right now but in the after life we'll be rewarded.

Also, since we have free will then we cause all the human evil and if god intervened in then he could ruin the laws of physics or something.

So if you think of god as the fitness instructor that makes you run for ages and you're in pain but then later on you benefit from it... that's what life is like.

Also, the Muslim god (Allah) is separate from his creation so none of the evil is his fault.

And... the fact that we aren't perfect means we do imperfect things, unlike god.

Hey, guess why i smile a lot... because it's worth it

People who don't want you to think are never your friends.

Here's a few problems I had with it:

  • Use of war graves image = crass beyond belief. That really got on my nerves, actually.
  • Claim that people dying is because "God gave them more than they could handle" = moronic. People die because of simple biology.
  • Implying causation between God's plan and the deaths of children insofar as one being the direct result of the other is fallacious by way of ipse dixit - it is asserted rather than demonstrated or supported by argument.
  • Comparison with Superman is childish beyond belief, as is conclusion that Superman is always good (anyone who's read the comics will call that one out pretty quickly...)
  • Claim that God doesn't do anything is also an ipse dixit argument, as it is asserted rather than proven. It treats overt, thunder-and-lightning action as the only possible way in which God could do something in the circumstances, without any justification as to why this should be the case.
That's a fairly superficial review of some of them, but all in all I wasn't particularly impressed.

However bleak things seem, however insurmountable the darkness appears, remember that you have worth and nothing can take that away.
