Hi everyone, i just signed up so wanted to stop in here and say hello. I'm from Ireland, i'm in my 20's and i'm hoping that's not too old to be on here
 .I've just really acknowledged the fact that i've been suffering with depression this past year (been doing my best to block it out until now), i finally got up the nerve to see my GP on Monday to go through options to hopefully move forward and get past this. So i'm currently trying to decide whether to try anti-depressants, therapy or a combination of both. I guess i'm here to get advice from others that are in a similar situation and to maybe make some new friends of course  , anyway i hope you to chat to you all soon, see ya. |

well hello there.
welcome to TH  hope you get yourself comfortable here.no your not too old,everyone is welcomed on here. we will be glad to assist you and help. and i cant say im in the same situation  im fighting my sadness on my own. maybe those with the exact same experience can give you advice. also ask your doctor. and i would try therapy 1st with my psychiatrist. cause he/she can look onto your depression closer,give advice,maybe support. dunno what theyre like... just imagine both and decide best.so theres the chatroom,ill look forward to chat to you. we are all nice here,mostly. i try not to bite.  lol jk. also check our other forum sections. theres on TH ... many other ways to get advice.i hope you get better. remember,just fight. see you around and welcome again. ~Tasha~  |

Welcome to TeenHelp! My name is Sammie and I am a Live Help Operator. I am 20 even and Irish, so... I like you already! lol I am sorry to hear that you have been suffering with depression for the past year but I am extremely happy that you are ready to take that step forward and try your best to overcome it. You most certainly have come to the right place to get advice from those that have been in your situation or are currently going thru it. I can't say I have ever tried anti-depressants but I have spoken to a therapist and that is what personally helped me. However, it is different for everybody. Hey there! Welcome to TeenHelp. I'm Chess, one of the buddies (we're the light green people you'll see about the place) that Sammie Jo mentioned. We're here to help new users settle in, so feel free to contact me or another buddy if you need anything.
You're not too old to be on here; the name 'TeenHelp' is slightly deceptive, since we have many older users here too. Well done for being able to talk to your GP about this - that's a really big step forward. I hope TH offers you the support and advice you're after. The Chat Room is a great place to make friends or get/give support/advice, so I hope to see you in there some time. As well as the Support Forums (like the Depression and Suicide one, which you may like), TH has more light-hearted stuff, like the blogs, social groups, and monthly eZine, Avatar. Hello and Welcome to TH! And don't worry, you are not too old to be here on TH, if that was, then I wouldn't be on here, since I am 23
 I, too, am a buddy and it is our job to help you get started here on TH. I see that you said that you struggle with depression. I suggest, like Chess, you visit the Depression and suicide. I also recommend you read the posts that Amanda has posted, as they are some pretty resourceful links to help you get started here on TH. One thing I do recommend you take advantage of, is the creation of your own blog, which can be located through your profile page. A lot of people use this feature in many different ways; use it as a journal, ask advice, get to know people better, etc... Try it out sometime. Also why don't you consider maybe joining a couple social groups and meet some new people that share some common interests. This is a great way to help find some new friends that share the same tastes as you. If you EVER need help with anything, or you have ANY questions, please feel free to PM/ VM me or any other buddy as we would be more then willing to help you out. I hope you enjoy your stay here on TH!
