Recovery Poem - April 28th 2012, 01:29 AM

I am 22 years old and this poem is basically a true description of my life so far. I've been an addict since I was 15 but started in recovery In September of '10. I've had relapses since then, but i have not given up.
Any advice/criticism/comments?? Please be honest.

"There once was a dreamer
Who just wanted a friend.
She didn't like girls,
And boys wouldn't play pretend.
She ran through the playground,
Spreading her wings;
Dreaming of puppies, and ponies,
And pink sparkly things.
She picked a few flowers,
Tucked one in her braid;
Then off she went running,
With butterflies she played.
As the seasons passed,
Her family changed.
Became alot more hostile
And each person felt estranged.
Harsh words turned to violence
Which instilled alot of fear.
And it continued that way
Year after year.
She lost sight of the beauty,
Only noticed the pain.
She hated going home,
She'd rather stand in the rain.
And as she would stand there,
She'd think back on those days.
Everything seemed so perfect...
Is happiness just a phase??
As more time passed by
She turned to pot, pills, and liquor,
She thought it was helping
But it only made her sicker.
She continued with her secret life,
Until she finally had it.
That lifestyle was killing her
And she finally said "I Quit!"

I'm Jen and i'm an addict,
But that's not all of me.
Today i'm a dreamer, and a friend,
But most of all i'm happy."

Life isn't about worrying,
That's a waste of time.
And life isn't about being perfect,
It will never happen.
Life is about finding yourself,
And finding people who accept that person.
