There is a girl... - April 12th 2017, 05:08 PM

There is a girl at my school who reads constantly. We will call her Rachael. She reads at lunch, during class, sometimes even in the halls. At first I didn't like her, I thought she was mean, but then I got to know her a little bit. That's when I understood. People get so irritated at her for reading so much, they make fun of her and make fun of anyone who reads a book really fast or takes out a book at school. They say "Wow, Rachael!" Or "We only need ONE Rachael." She never acts like she cares, but I wonder. Do you think she goes home happy? I hope so, because she is an amazing person. But what if she doesn't? What if she cries herself to sleep every night? Because she reads not to irritate people, but to escape. She wants to escape from reality into the pages of a well-written story. Is it right for someone to bully her for her method of coping? That makes her happy and it is not hurting anyone, so what's the problem? You. The problem is the people who make her feel like nothing but a face hidden by hardback.

I like the questions you asked during this, they were thought provoking. The ending is powerful as well. Thanks for sharing.
